NEW YORK (AP) -- Spider-Man has conquered the movies. Now it's Broadway's turn.

"Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" will open Feb. 18, 2010, at the Hilton Theatre. Preview performances begin Jan. 16.

Producers say the musical, directed by Julie Taymor, will feature a score by Bono and The Edge. Taymor, the creative force behind Disney's long-running "Lion King," will co-write the book with Glen Berger.

The story was inspired by the Marvel comic books hero and will include the story of his origins as well as new material.

"Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" is produced by Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle, Martin McCallum, Marvel Entertainment/David Maisel, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Jeremiah Harris.

So, what does everybody think? Personally, I think this will either suck beyond the telling of it, or totally rock.

Barring bad reviews, I am SO going to New York for spring break next year.

Yeah, this. Not only is it a musical adapted from a film, it also has Bono writing the score. It will be a spectacular carnival of suck.

On the other hand, an X-Men musical would have a cast with foundation of theatre experience to fall back on.

Look at it this way. They at least aren't trying a 300 musical yet right?

Not gonna bother. I will flagrantly state that part of the greatness of the Spider-Man films is the CG scenes of watching our favorite wall crawler swing through the city.

The first thing I thought of was "How do you turn off the dark?" As far as movie titles go, that's almost as bad as "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever"
