I apologize if another topic on this subject is a bit much, but I feel it really needs this poll....

What do tyou think the OMAC takeover of jolt.co.uk (and therefore the NS boards) is? Good? Bad?

I have fewer tech problems with the boards since OMAC took over -- they maintain time sync better and seem better compatible with my browser, and they go offline less -- but I am having a seriously negative reaction to OMAC's latest advertising experiment. So I would say the boards are better function-wise, but if this latest escapade is an example of OMAC's adminstrative decision-making, it will not go well in future.

Yeah, the ads in the actual posts are really tacky.

This, pretty much. Though I add that I only notice the advertisements when I'm accessing NSG on any computer other than my own at home, which is not very often. (Really only when I'm at college, during my two and a half hours of free time before my first class.)

Use adblock and noscript. I see very little in the way of ads.

Little or no improvement in regularity of forum crashing, excessive and irritating advertising (though I can avoid this at home by using adblock etc, so it doesn't impact me much). For me a case of no difference.

i prefer the pre-jolt entirely days. "would the forum still be running when i finish typing this post or not?" nobody knew! it was like vegas.

If anything that's unimprovement for you. Anti-improvement. What's the word I want? I can't think of it, but it describes for you, since as I recall, Pre-OMAC NSG had very little advertising. Just a small banner ad up in the right hand corner showing off Jolt's stuff, and that was it. And it was even interesting at times, unlike OMAC's advertising.

I like the was the forum doesn't crash every ten seconds. That helps.

Them ads make my eyes bleed though. That doesn't help.

I think one ad per page is reasonable. But two.... is a little overboard.

I would say they're somewhat better since OMAC took over. For one thing there's been hardly any desync. I don't use ad-blocking stuff but even then it's not too bad, and the increased stability makes up for it.

Two is overboard but ignorable, three (one being INSIDE a post) is both unignoarble IN A BAD WAY and ugly
