Personally, I think angry teens are more likely to obsess over the internet than the other way around.

Seems like a useless study to me, I don't see a big connection.

I can see how teens obsess over facebook or myspace though. If they can monitor other people's actions, that in itself is obsession. Especially if it's a "Joe is hitting on Jen, but Rob really likes Jen so Rob becomes a myspace stalker" scenario.

from article quoted in the OP
Teenagers who are preoccupied with their Internet time may be more prone to aggressive behavior, researchers reported Monday.

In a study of more than 9,400 Taiwanese teenagers, the researchers found that those with signs of Internet "addiction" were more likely to say they had hit, shoved or threatened someone in the past year.

I find this study stupid. They're are more likely to say they've been aggressive =/= they're more likely to have been aggressive.

Definitely, as the internet doesn't obsess over angry teens at all.

There are all sorts of studies that rely on self-reported behavior. It's how many studies of sexual behavior collect their data, as it's not feasible to follow subjects around with cameras for months. It's not a flawless method but it's no reason to invalidate a study either.

You'd be surprised.

Basically, since you know some people could be lying, you take everything with a grain of salt, but since people could be lying about not being violent, it all balances itself out.

Indeed I'd be surprised if a bunch of computers, routers, cables 'n' stuff would be found to be obsessing over anything.
