I can't sleep and I really should get some.

how does NSG get ready for bed?
I usually have a long hot shower followed by a cup of tea which pretty much knocks me into sleep (but only if I have my socks off)

If I have 6-8 hours to sleep, a sleeping pill and a glass of water and pray it kicks in. If less, I read shit and either fall asleep or don't. Also, I never shower before bed...for some reason showers seem like a distinctly morning endeavor (unless you do something after which you obviously need a shower), taking one before bed just seems, I dunno, unnatural to me. =p

Ain't there lots of caffeine in tea? I stay away from coffee or tea before bed. My ritual is to finish my work or t.v. watching about an hour before bed and read until I nod off. Reading is wonderfully soporific for me.

I have no problem at all sleeping .. thank goodness.

Once my waking hours are up (16) it's about my time. My avg hours are odd numbers. 7 or 5 and use to be 3, but on the 3 I'd desire a power nap sometime during that day. Atm I'm on 5 and 7. I guess as I get older it will move up to 9.

Getting ready for bed...put on my comfy stuff, wash face, brush teeth, get in my bed fix all my pillows .. read or watch tv.. and soon snooze.

When I'm working a day shift.. as soon as I get home from work, if I don't need to go out anymore I shower and put on comfy clothes asap , and be comfy all evening. Brush my teeth and floss after I'm done with supper.

If I'm not having sex (includes masterbation) or working up a sweat working or exercising .. I do not shower everyday.. I wash up (face, butt, feet) for at least 2 days. meh

In all honesty, I really don't try to sleep when I can't, I read a book, it's very frustrating to lie in the dark trying to get to sleep and being unable, the very frustration stops you.

I don't watch TV or read the computer, I've read that the lights don't help, I just have a dim reading lamp and read away.

Where you can't sleep over consecutive days, might be worth popping by the doctor and checking to see whether you have some problems.

I stay up as late as I possibly can, take massive amounts of caffeine, wait for it to wear off, and promptly fall asleep.

tea however is relaxing...but I also drink it in the morning :s

don't your covers regulate temperature anyway?

I turn down the heat

take it I'm not the only one who sticks their feet out of the covers to get them cold :)

I did that for a long while, but I became dependent on the pills eventually. That's no fun.

without heat overnight it gets kinda chilly by morning. the parts that are outside the covers get exaggeratedly cold (i tend to think that it is FREEEEZING until i get up and find that its not so bad)

Yeah, when are you trying to go to sleep Call to Power? Are you physically active during your waking hours? Are you drinking lots or sodas or tea or coffee? Do you have shit plaguing your mind?

Also .. the alcohol thing someone mentioned.. yeah it might can help (as long as you ain't a alcoholic or recovering of course ) if you drink a small quantity .. slowly..while relaxing, say wine.. but if you need that something is wrong.

And for those folks that think the sleep they had after passing out or getting wasted was worthy .. When someone drinks a lot and then passes out/goes to sleep they are not getting a recuperative sleep. They are just simply 'knocked out' and haven't gotten the necessary benefits of sleep.

I use to think I was weird cause after getting wasted and sleeping or passing out.. I'd always need 'another sleep' (a sober sleep) to feel good. I was completely normal.

Ooh yeah can't have the room too warm. I have a hard time sleeping if I'm hot, I might start out cold/cool.. but once I start falling into sleep mode and once I get to sleep I heat up. Guess my body is repairing the daily damage lol

Spend way too long reading in bed.

Spend way too long thinking about all the shit I have to do tomorrow/this week/this year.

Go to sleep.

Oh, don't even get me started. The last two weeks my day-night cycle is completely screwed up. Totally turned upside down. I stayed up way too long a couple of nights, and before I knew it I was right awake during the night and fell asleep between 07:00 and 10:00, only to wake up around 17:00 or 18:00, not being able to sleep at all way past midnight (mid-"day"?!?).

I've managed to somehow get it straightened out a little bit with taking naps in the afternoon or staying awake as long as possible on one day until I almost fell asleep while sitting at the desk.

Taking a walk and getting some fresh air usually helped me to get bed-ready and tired - but that doesn't always work. Controlled breathing exercises or meditation sometimes does the trick, but not always.

A hot shower (beat that circulation down!) might do the trick for me, but I usually shower in the morning to wake up and once a day is enough.

I hope not! The monsters underneath my bed are bad enough already!

Well, watching the Oscar's last night till 06:00 didn't really help, either.

I do believe I'll take a "short" nap now. Wonder if it'll be dark when I wake up again?!?

The answer is, i find a very, very short respite from screaming, diapers, things i haven't finished and some other thing to keep me awake, and i literally pass out wherever i am, be it the floor, hallway, car, or draped across the TV.

so what your saying is I should have children, I think I will run this over a few people and see what I getIf nothing else, borrow someone else's for a while. Like a family member, so you can bitch about how they're obviously terrible parents for how the kids turned out and you could do a much better job, and they'd gladly leave the kids with you more often (so long as you prove it a little).

.... probably best not to solicit this to complete strangers, however.
Yeah ... before the kids are born, somewhere in the third trimester (even in the second for some), whomever is pregnant makes it really difficult for their SO to get any restful sleep. So you can get started early.

I usually take a warm bath, drink some tea and then speak for a while with him. Finally, with some low music on the background and ever so slowly, pleasantly, I begin to drift to sleep.
