Tycoon's mistress contest ends in tragedy
08:31 AEST Wed Feb 18 2009

A married Chinese tycoon who could no longer afford to support his five mistresses during the economic slowdown held a contest to decide which one to keep, according to local media reports.

The contest took a tragic turn when one of the mistresses, who was eliminated based on her looks, drove her former lover and the four other women off a mountain road in an apparent fit of anger, the Shanghai Daily reported.

The driver died in the December 6 crash while the man and four other women were hospitalised, the report said.

Initially, it was thought to be an accident, but then details of the bizarre contest emerged in a letter left by the dead woman, a 29-year-old former waitress surnamed Yu, the newspaper said.

The woman met the entrepreneur, surnamed Fan, at the restaurant where she worked in the coastal city of Qingdao in 2000 and became his lover, the report said.

Fan later introduced her to the four other mistresses — two of his employees and two former clients — with all given a 5000-yuan ($1153) monthly allowance and rent-free apartment, the report said.

However, when Fan's business ran into tough times, he decided to lay off all but one woman, the report said.

Fan hired an instructor from a modelling agency to judge a private contest he held at a hotel in May, but he did not tell the women about his intentions.

Yu was eliminated in the first-round beauty competition and a woman surnamed Liu eventually won after dominating the drinking round, the report said.

When Fan told Yu she was dismissed and that he was selling her apartment, she decided to exact revenge during a group outing.

After the accident Fan paid Yu's parents 580,000 yuan ($133,636) as compensation for her death. His wife divorced him after learning of his affairs, the report said, adding the other four mistresses also left him.

The tale was reported in other Chinese media, but none gave further details about Fan, such as his age or profession.

Wait WTF?

Fan is the tycoon, and Yu "drove her former lover and the four other women off a mountain road".

Fan was a victim of an attempted murder, so why would he pay the murderer's parents?

Probably to make sure the parents don't cause a fuss or to please his troubled mind or because he felt bad about causing her to take her life and felt a sense of duty because of it to make sure the parents were ok?

Indeed, Pimp my Mistress, in all seriousness, there's definitely a slapstick comedy film in this story,

Yu are the weakest link... goodbye!

Very good :)

There's no way I'd pay my attempted murderer or his relatives, no matter how "justified" the murder attempt was. And hey, firing an employee is legal, murder of 5 people is not. You don't go killing your former employer and his remaining employees because he fired you; if you do, you don't deserve any particular mercy, at least not from your victim.

And whatever "feeling bad" or "troubled mind" I could have would be wiped away by an attempt on my life.

And I'm not even a tycoon, which means I'm less cold-blooded.

So there must be something different that forced him to do it, and I wonder, what.

And the fact there is a very strong case for liability given his duty of care to her mental health and the standard of living to which she'd become accustomed to during their relationship. I imagine it was on advice of his lawyers, and came with a stack of paperwork.

Why the Hell did he let her drive?
"Hey, babe, you're ugly, so I'm dumping you. Also, you're fired. Oh, and one last thing, I'm selling your house. Now that that's out of the way, would you kindly drive us along this dangerous mountain road?"

What's the Mandarin word for, "Total fucking moron?"

Hey if you really want to know why not call him or wait until his asleep and invade his dreams? Other then that all I can say his human so their doesn't have to be a good reason for what he did. Like H N Fiddlebottoms VIII says the guy had to be stupid to let her drive anyway. :p

its a public shame thing. lets say you have a wife and she knows you have a mistress. one of the most effective ways for her to get back is send a letter explaining you have a mistress to her parents and jump out the window ( or some other public suicide). It will let everyone know and you will lose face. unless of course you pay off her parents to keep secret. (the amount normally is enough to cause loss of the mistress.) And this all from a society that does not have a tradition of honor suicide. (like japan)

There's this thing with trusting that people may punch you in the face, but not kill you along with themselves.

This is different. He wasn't cheating, they were legally and publicly hired as his mistresses. He had nothing to be ashamed of.

Except his wife had no idea, and it was at least private enough that it becoming "public" would cause further upset.

A sense of honour or duty? A ability to turn the other cheek or understand why she did what she did and not hate her for it. Maybe he a better man then you. After all he had five women...;)

Hello, he's a tycoon. In China.

And he bought five women. I once had more than five women for free.

Well, not me alone. And I didn't have all of them. And I maybe had one of them, but I was too drunk to remember, and they way more drunk (after all I'm not a lightweight). Or at least I could have more than five women if I was less drunk. Though maybe not me. And probably less than five. But someone probably had someone. Or at least had partially undressed someone. Unless they had undressed in the stripper poker. But at least I could have been there.

It's already more public than anything. It's in newspapers in foreign languages. You don't go any more public than that.

She just lost her employment, her boyfriend and her housing, all in one fell swoop because she wasn't attractive enough. That would be enough to make even Mother Theresa contemplate murder.

The article says that the wife only learned of the affairs after the accident, so they weren't really "public."
As far as "hired?" "Honey, it wasn't an affair. I was paying her for sexual favors!" doesn't really cut it with most women. I guess your experience might differ.

I think you're missing the point, it was private, then it becomes public causing the upset.
