The mother of all temper tantrums (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbVw7entkxg)
biggest - and ugliest - 2 year I ever seen.

I've been through HK airport: their security guys look damn scary, wandering round with submachine guns and body armour. So, where were they and how come they didn't take this opportunity to finally use said guns? Probably their best (and only) chance!

Gotta love her hubby: leaning against the wall, totally chillin'. Seen it all before no doubt, the poor sap.

I think she deserves some kind of medal for that champion tantrum, she has the over 40s category tied up.

"It's all your fault, damn you! Stupid man. All your fault. Everyone here is stupid. All your fault. I hate you. All your fault. Damn you and everyone here. All your fault." Really not that hard to figure even if you don't know Chinese.

Trouble is, she's wearing a blouse just like one of mine.

that's more scary. tantrums everything is out in the open and the embarrassment is considered revenge enough. quite revenge is more along the lines of like oh I slept with your friend sorry about that, OH BTW enjoy the Gonorrhea.

i wish i knew what she was saying.

Something about wanting to get on the plane and why she couldn't be let on even though it was still there I think (I suspect the plane was on the tarmac, but the gate was already closed). The guy in the suit was saying something about not worrying and getting another plane. My Cantonese is rudimentary at best.

you got more then I did. I was inferring from the Ma's and the one or two other words i thought might be similar to mandarin. also did you have any luck catching the tones? i couldn't hear one of them on the youtube recording.

probably better than mine but from what I could gather, along with the situation, most of her screeching was along the lines of, "Let me on the plane!"
There were also a few, "ah Dui Lei"s thrown in there.
fyi, this translates as, "fuck you!" or "go fuck yourself!"

y'know who I feel really sorry for? Her maid. Imagine the shit she must have to put up with.

Talked to someone who has a better grasp of Cantonese. Here's the transcript.

a. The plane hasn't left yet, I HAVE to leave, it hasn't left yet!
b. I SAID ITS POSSIBLE!!! Why [can't I get on]?!?!
c. AIYAH THE PLANE IS LEAVING! How can it leave?!
d. This is insane/ unjust/ ridiculous. The door wasn't even closed and you wouldn't let me on.
e. How can this be?
(This is around when she stands up and leans on the the counter and sounds like her volume is being turned off)
f. I was late to arrive at Sum Chun but usually I'm not late! I said this can't be. *something about the car she took didn't leave on time* what does this have to do with me? *bangs table*
g. What does this have to do with me?! I don't know, I don't know! How could this BE! The plane hadn't even left and you won't let me in. This is insane, the plane hadn't left!
h. Damnit what am I supposed to do now? (To the employee in suit) What do you say I should do?
i. You say fly directly to New York, then I'll fly directly to New York. Change the flight to NY, right? THEN CHANGE IT TO NY! (she starts getting heated up again)
j. You should've let me in the gate first! (Man in suit: But I had to check your documentation) YOU SHOULD'VE LET ME IN! (Man in suit: You couldn't've gone in!)
k. *inaudible... something about letting in one person is no different from letting in two...* What a dunce you are! Just let one in!

The guy in the suit is saying the following.

"please don't react intensely, we will arrange you on the next possible flight. There's no problem, please don't overreact"

y'know who I feel really sorry for? Her maid. Imagine the shit she must have to put up with.

From a trends perspective, Hong Kong maids (generally from Indonesia or Philippines) are among one of the worst abused people in the domestic services sector, a close match to Singapore and just behind Saudi Arabia. You hear all sorts of horror stories about maids being raped, scalded, burned, beaten, forced to eat their excrement, etc, etc, every now and again from the former two countries. They happen most places, true, but the frequency is alarming.

I suspect it may have something to do with the high population density and stress of daily life.

Unbefuckinglievable. Do people have no sense of dignity OR proportion? Get on the next flight, for pete's sake, you overdramatic moron. I would expect such a scene if, for example, her six year old kid had gotten on the plane and she hadn't, and she was deperate to get her kid back.

I've seen a Chinese woman go absolutely ballistic after she left her car, valet parked, in a private parking lot for over 12 hours. The owner confiscated her keys and she damn-near split the counter and cash register in half.

Police came by. ^^

Depends on where you're from. You get some real country bumpkins in Beijing, but everybody's parents seem to steer them away from Shanghainese women, who (to quote my friend's dad) "turn men into gibbering pussies".

Japanese women, on the other hand, are generally wonderful people who are unfortunately burdened with some of the most useless, helpless women on the planet.

Heh. Oddly enough, I've found the Shanghai women I've know to be about the best of the lot...

Wait, they make these? I could definitely use some of those. Although my sisters have enough tantrums that I don't think they'll ever need to worry about not having one handy.

Actually, I think that they steal mine.

All that repressed emotion, it has to find an outlet somewhere.

Trouble is, she's wearing a blouse just like one of mine.
You must burn it. That is the only solution.

Don't you just love Chinese (or Japanese) to English translations? For some reason you just don't get such beautifully awkward phrases coming from Germans or Italians.

how utterly surprising: It's not her fault. Of course. It's never her fault, ever. There's always someone else to blame.
