I don't get it ...

Anti-Social Darwinism

Is it the Brits? Is it Facebook (or any one of a number of "social" sites)? Or am I just too old?

I know all this stuff goes on. I understand affairs, I understand divorce, I just don't understand announcing it all to the entire world, strangers and friends alike, and hoping no one notices.

Someone, explain this particular cyberphenomenon to me.

Maybe the guy didn't have the guts to say it to her face, and figured facebook was the easiest way...

I've broken up with a girl on AIM before and it was SO easy. Way easier than in person.

Not that its my policy to do so, just saying...

this is why you don't marry any old bloke in the street (doing it by text is way more classy) just another loser with access to technology

Emma only found out that she was single after she got a call from a friend in Denmark who asked her how she was handling the breakup.

he sure moved in quick didn't he? :p

Mr Cooper: whats 5'9 an single?
Her: dunno
Mr Cooper: you

Lots of people are cowards, and if there's some sort of communications tech they can use to get their message out while avoiding actual contact they'll use it. Same deal with people who text their bosses "Dont think im comin in 2da" rather than calling.

I swear, some people are just wimps. I may be an ass, but I'd at least tell the girl that I don't want to be with her face to face. People do need proper closure. Also, don't start the whole "It's me, not you" or "You'll find someone, someday." A cut is still a cut, if you add in all the extra crap, all you're doing is cutting it slower, which is more painful in the long run.

/thread.

Making emotional decisions = difficult. And people these days have been conditioned by technology to expect all difficulty in their lives to vanish. So where possible they try to put distance between themselves and the difficult things. If they could do job interviews over AIM, they'd do that too, in a heartbeat.

Brutal! :D

I specially like his mate's comment that he was "better off out of it"!

How bizzare, i suppose it works, kind of a kick in the balls for the lady like but i'm wondering if someone could just make a fake profile of a friend then do a similar thing to a couple in a long distance relationship or something?
So therefore i don't think this is a good way to break up with people, well i certainly wouldn't do it. heh i've figured out how to break up with people before i even make relationships with them, how sad is that?

We have become so impersonal. Facebook and IM systems have supplanted face-to-face conversations.

surely she would of run off when you loosened the chains though?

its a divorce so he probabaly just really really hates her...I would of sent her a divorce gift basket to her work or a bunch of dead flowers to be delivered when shes at her mothers

omg lets ruin mail order brides lives as a hobby!

well you can fly to the UK if you want but it might be a bit far if all you want to do is say hello

For friends who are far, Facebook and IM services are ok. What I don't see as intelligent is replacing interpersonal relations with those who are close to us, with the internet. It's kinda silly.

Besides, if I break up, and have one last grudge fuck and donkey punch her in the process - that's not really possible on the Internet, but it is possible in real life.

Real life is so much more satistfying in that regard...

don't see how divorcing online is any different than people who propose and announce their engagements online....

that said, it does seem immature and heartless, don't blame the friend for commenting, he had no idea that the guy was dumb enough to post it before he let his wife know.

the other thing I have seen is people who make their status single or divorced to pick up people online with no intention of ever actually being single in RL. thats a pig in my opinion.
