Is NSG randomly setting off Trojan Horse warnings for anyone else?

Every once in a while, I browse across to a page on NSG and my Avast! virus scanner reports that it has detected and deleted a Trojan Horse attempt. It also gives a url as follows:

http://b.qweoixiczoiuwq.com/zzzweoiruw/pdf.php?id=15546

and

http://b.qweoixiczoiuwq.com/zzzweoiruw/pdf.php?id=15546&vis=1

I tried virus scanning my entire computer, but it came up negative for any infection.

Nationstates is actually the only window I have open in Firefox right now, and I'm not running any plugins.

I recommend you use NoScript (http://noscript.net/).

Yeah, there was a thread in tech about it a while ago. I turned on adblock and I haven't had any more problems.

It's a banner ad that tries to redirect you to a site that downloads a trojan.

Step away from your computer immediately!!!!!!!

Either a brain-seizing virus is seeking to infect you through your monitor or the government has initiated your computer's self-destruct function

Sorry, I have no helpful advice other than to say I've never encountered such problems.

If your virus scanner isn't picking anything up, try Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. The version available for no cost will be able to disinfect most threats with a scan. I do basic (tier one helpdesk) tech support and it's one of my primary tools for users with infected computers.

Seconded. My kid accidentally got the antivirus2009 on my computer and that was the only thing that could see it to get rid of it. I had to change the program name so that the virus didn't recognize it before it worked though.

Ah thanks... thought it was just me.

Although, I've got a completely different URL that's threatening.

You should report whatever info you have to that thread in technical so they can remove whatever ad is causing issues.

One of our users got it as well, and I had to try to fix it remotely...
It was... an entertaining experience.

You know what I would suggest? Getting a Mac! No one writes viruses for Macs because it's harder than Windows. I don't even worry about viruses.

I thought about that once...But, Its more expensive, and the only dealer is their website down here...

And, well, Honestly no one writes Games for Macs because its harder than just writing it for Windows,:p...

While OS X is UNIX and thus more secure than Windows, Apple now recommends that Mac users get anti-virus software.

If you really want a secure OS, go with a GNU/Linux distro. ;)

Ahh not really.

The old macs had problems and OSX is having problems.

Not to the scale of windows but osx is also not deployed as much as windows.

Anyway. Sophos as kept a history. Not as many bugs as windows but your statement is incorrect.

There are about 100 known viruses for linux. ;)

Certainly, no operating system is invincible. But some are more secure than others.

Indeed. Windows big fault was when some idiot said "hey I know, lets allow office and the OS to be scriptable!!!!!!"

I've never had a warning, so either the family computer with XP is infected, or Opera doesn't let it happen. I'm hoping for the latter.

What anti-virus are you running? Some prevent things without big flashy foghorn warnings.....and some don't look for things like this at all.

Many reasons. Is your defs and programs current? As smunk asked which AV are you using?

Sophos, all current to the best of my knowledge as it's self-updating. The router I use also has a firewall, and I turn the Windows Firewall on, but that could be opening up my system to baddies:p.

Actually the windows firewall does an ok job with DOS attacks. But that is about it. All you can say is that its better then nothing.

Kerio makes a decent cheap software firewall....

Haha, they always keep on repeating that no viruses for other OS because nobody cares to write them. Repeat it enough and somebody will believe it. The youtube videos are way funnier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-22EpQOm8c
