so... what makes it 'Advanced'...
hmmm... with all that equiptment in a $1 Billion vessel, it SHOULD have the ability to avoid this (http://kgmb9.com/main/content/view/13886/40/)...
Navy Missile Cruiser Stuck on Reef Near Airport

One of Pearl Harbor's biggest, most expensive and most advanced warships runs aground outside the Honolulu International Airport.
Several attempts to remove the missile carrier have failed. But Friday night, the Navy is downplaying the potential for environmental damage.
A $1 billion Navy ship is teetering on a shallow reef off Oahu's south shore, run aground by its new commander.
Salvaging sailboat wrecks is hard enough, but this missile launcher weighs 9,000 tons.
The USS Port Royal is stuck on the reef, rocks and sand about a half mile off land.

I think the United States should declare a "war on reefs" after this unprovoked and destructive attack on an American warship.

A friend of mine was on the USS Enterprise when it hit an underwater mountain and bent one of its propellers. The mountain is marked on all charts with a giant red circle and a caption that warns that if you sit so many feet below the water, you must circumnavigate this mountain.

Quite. I mean, some idiots might be passing phrases around about how these reefs are freedom fighters, protecting their habitat from destruction. But this is nonsense. These reefs simply hate Christianity, they hate the fact that the US is a peaceful nation that exhibits so much Christian love, they want to see love destroyed. This is why we must invade France, the intelligence clearly shows that France is collaborating and sponsoring extremist reef terrorists, as well as harbouring many reefs of mass destruction!

Though it really should be "War on Reefs". Capitalization is very important if you want it to become a proper catchphrase. *nod*

Remember the Port Royal?
No idea what that is but I do remember this (http://www.snopes.com/military/lighthouse.asp). Which I'll always love dearly no matter that it never happened.
I feel sorry for that poor schmuck of a navigational officer - I mean, can you imagine the lecture he'll be getting from the captain?

You said "Remember the Port Royal?" in response to DI's funny remark about declaring "war on reefs" - and now you link me to an article about a ship called Maine sinking after running onto a mine, killing 274 people?
I'z confused.
Edit: D'oh - you're saying because they blamed it on Spain? But that's.. different and seemed to have made sense at the time... and stuff. (In my defense, your link went straight to the "Sinking" part so I figured I was supposed to look at that specifically, not the results or rest of the story).
Did I just kill your reference by overthinking & being stupid at the same time? <<

"Remember the Maine" was a slogan during the Spanish-American war.

I was gonna say "I know now" but only then I realized the Port Royal is the ship from the OP. D'OH. Which means had I paid moar attention to reading the OP I would have understood what Sdaeriji meant. Which would have gone a long way toward not looking so stupid right now. *facepalm*

Disappointing. Really ought to have added legs to the side so it could simply walk away from such tragedies.

Sad part is that the Captain will never get another vesel to command. They navy is very peculiar about that.

Well ofcorse, USS Enterprise is a space vessel, there was no need for it to go under water!

WoR - what is it good for? :p
Just wait a couple of years. Rising sea levels will eventually set the ship free.
As if coral reefs don't have enough problems, now people are running enormous ships into them.

Yeah, that reef should sue :P

How can you possibly declare a war on reefs? Reefing is a tactic.

It would be a boring show. If the USS Port Royal could physically sink then they wouldnt be stuck ON TOP of a reef in the first place.
