"It wasn't me, it was my evil twin!"

Malaysian identical twin brothers have escaped hanging for drug trafficking as a court failed to decide which brother was the criminal, and cleared both.

A judge in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, said the case was unique and she could not send the wrong person to his death.

In 2003 police arrested one brother found driving drugs to a house. The second twin arrived soon afterwards and was also arrested.

Neither officers nor a DNA test could identify which twin owned the drugs.

Sathis and Sabarish Raj, 27, cried in court when they heard the judge say that the prosecution had failed to prove which twin had been arrested first with a car containing 166kg of cannabis and almost 2kg of raw opium.

According to the New Straits Times, the judge told the court: "I can't be calling the wrong twin to enter his defence. I can't be sending the wrong person to the gallows."

Execution is mandatory for convicted drugs traffickers in Malaysia.

Apparently, having a twin does come in handy sometimes.

So - Have you had any special experiences with twins? Any twin trouble? Any good times suddenly being twice as good? *Wink, wink*

Are you a twin? Do you have an evil twin? Does shaving off the goatee help?

Do you believe that twins share a special bond? Do you know twins that finish each others sentences and the likes?

Feel free to share.

Twins? I wish. It's definitely on my list of "things to do before I die"

I knew an identical twin who claimed to have labour pains when her sister was giving birth.

Not quite the X-files,I know :p

They are such devious little plotters too. I think it's a twin thing because every set of twins I ever met were devious.

I am a twin. Never escaped criminal charges because of it but the other day I was at my twin's flat and his flatmate had a friend over who didn't know my brother had a twin. While he was hiding in his room, I introudced myself as my brother and talked away. Lad didn't notice a thing and after a while I left the room to "answer my phone" and my twin came into the room and picked up the conversation while I left off. Still didn't notice. Eventually I came back in and sat opposite your man until he noticed.
The guy was speechless and it wasn't like we were wearing similar clothes and my brother was much more clean shaven.

Having twins or being a twin? Because I think the second one might be a bit hard.

I'm a twin, but non-identical (which is actually more common). There was, and sometimes is, a certain deviousness directed towards others, particularly our older brother, but we're not that close now. There's no 'connection', but we do have similar tastes in food and other things.

Wait, you mean a judge actually decided NOT to just execute an innocent person anyway? In MALAYSIA of all places?

I'm freaked out here.

My wife's younger sisters are identical twins. Actually twins run in both her and my families, which makes family planning a little entertaining.

If you aren't a political, are a Malay, and fairly low profile, you're likely to get a fair ruling in Malaysia.

If you are a political in an opposition party opposing the ruling party, you're more likely to be facing trumped up charges in an entrapment attempt.

If you are a non-political but with dirt on the ruling party, expect to disappear. Maybe you'll show up in a ditch somewhere. The courts will dither and then forget about the case though.

If you are a non-political, non-Malay human rights activist, expect to be declared terrorists and whisked away by the secret police. The courts won't acknowledge you exist.

Yep. They were dressed identically for maximum cuteness except for their shoes and they traded shoes.
