The retail therapy thread

Ok, long story that inspired this thread.
I'm (hopefully) going to get married this year, and hopefully in September. Originally, we wanted to get married in April, but we had to change our date twice now, because first most of my friends said they couldn't come on the first date, and then, after having first agreed to come, my BF's family said they couldn't make it after all.
So as you can imagine, I had 2 rather nerve-wrecking weeks, spending a fortune on phone bills for calls to Germany, the UK, the registry office and the hotel we want to have the wedding at, trying to make everybody happy and looking up flight connections and ferries in between.

When everything was settled yesterday afternoon, I decided I needed some retail therapy as a little treat. While I've had my dress for a few weeks now (ebay :D), I still don't have shoes, and I wanted a shawl to go with it all.
Spent 2 hours in town yesterday, and all I brought home were some ideas.
So I'm looking for some tips now, girls, since Cork's shops don't provide what I'm looking for.

I need a shawl or mantilla, white or cream (the dress is purple), preferably with some embroidery and a fringe. Anybody know any good websites? I've tried and failed.
Also, I need some extra-wide silver sandals with a bit of a heel, but not too much. Again, no luck whatsoever in town, and not all that much online. I found some nice ones, but that company only shipped to the US. :(

Any ideas and thoughts are much appreciated.

Also, if you've got any stories about things that took you a while to find, do share! Anything to do with shopping. :)

If you're in Ireland, they'll probably ship to you.

Thanks, but... I checked those already. No shawls like what I had in mind, and they don't do wide shoes. :(

Three quick thoughts:

1) I'm not sure what you want for your shawl, but if you're thinking of something simple, it may not be particularly expensive to have it made. If you can find the right fabric you're basically just getting someone to cut it and hem it, so you should be able to find a tailor to do that for a reasonable price.

2) On the other hand, if you're thinking something more traditional (giant lacy head-doily,) you may be able to get something mail-order. At least here in the US, a lot of smaller shops don't have their inventory online, so you might get better results looking in a Dublin phone directory and calling around. (Ask if they can send you a catalog or if you can email them a picture of what you want.) Depending on what you're looking for you may actually have better luck with a religious-supply shop vs. a bridal shop. I found my veil at the last minute (OK, two hours before my wedding,) at a little barrio store that carried mostly kids' First Communion and Quinceanera dresses. No way I would have found something online for less than twice the price.

3) Obviously you don't want to have the shoes made custom unless you're made of money, but again, you might have some luck calling around to smaller shops. (You might have better luck going across the channel. A quick search for "wide shoes" on google.uk turns up these (http://www.vandalshoes.com/product.asp?i=1320) though they're probably not your style...it looks like there are a good number of shops.)

Congratulation! send pics of the wedding!

as for shopping for hard to find items?

My nephew's DS broke, and I volunteered to look at it. finding a tri-wing screwdriver off line is damned impossible. only slightly less so is finding a screwdriver small enough to fit into a tri wing precision screw.

but that was doable. what I am now having problems is...

finding those fucking small screws to replace those damned Tri-wing ones!

For ''mantillas'', I got this: http://www.veilartistry.com/mantilla_catalog.html?gclid=CK6z78S4y5gCFQZeswod4Vws1g

I found a bunch of extra-wide silver sandals on Zappos: http://www.zappos.com/n/es/color/22/d/722000227/width/M_768/page/1.html. Their international shipping policy is at the top of the page. Could be pricey depending on the shoes you want.
