1280 x 1024. The native resolution of this LCD monitor, and its highest resolution to boot.

On a related note,
I think I read somewhere that females seemed to need a wider resolution than males to acquire that "3d feel".

1280x800, 32 bit colour, 60 Hz (laptop LCD, max res).
The desktop has a 1024x768, 32 bit, 75 Hz CRT, but I could push it to 1280x1024.

1360x1024.

Used to be 1280x960 - WHICH is the standard 4:3, not 1280x1024.

edit:
I curse Nvidia for not having 1360x1024 as a standard resolution.

This thread is so techy, I might have a geekgasm.

1280x1024 at 75hz. The poll makes me happy, I thought I was the only person that still had a teeny 4:3 monitor!

Although I am considering using my HDTV at 1920x1080 once I move house.

It happens. I can't blame the non-nerdy for not understanding such a question. :fluffle:

A while to wake up? Sounds like you've got an archaic monitor; one of those dinosaur CRTs and not an LCD.

Just remember what the dinosaurs spawned!

Jurassic Park, for starters.

Besides, this is the best possible kind of monitor: it was free.

There, there. Yes, the dinos ain't so bad. And free is good. However, CRT monitors are harder on the eyes if you use the computer for long periods at a time because of the low contrast ratio. The same monitors also use more energy than an LCD and are not the most environmentally friendly monitors around.

Granted larger resolutions means more pixels that have to be handled by the video card, which means more stress on the GPU. So, it's not all fun and games on this end if you have a weak video card. It won't be able to handle the load well. It results in latency issues and requires you to run at a lower resolution, unable to make use of the optimal resolution for the monitor.

Well, why miss out the standard laptop widescreen?

Those are standard laptop screens. I'm on a laptop, and it came at 1680 x 1050 - I just turned it down to 1440 x 900 for battery conservation.

The refresh rate is what people complain about the most. Many people get tired of staring at a CRT at 60hz, it's better off at around 75hz. With LCDs, it's not an issue.

But on the plus side, CRTs generally have a wider display of colors compared to LCDs.

The same monitors also use more energy than an LCD and are not the most environmentally friendly monitors around.

This is true, but then there's things like plasma screens which are worse, and they seem to be becoming more popular.

Which netbook?

I have an Asus Eee 701, so my resolution is a fantastic 800x480. For obvious reasons, I use a tiling window manager and small fonts in my xterms.
