The Karl Rove of the Commode?
Ok, it's offical, the GOP is desperate.
The Karl Rove of the Commode?

Call it a pipe dream come true: When members of the Conservative Working Group held their weekly strategy meeting on the Hill on Tuesday morning, they were joined by none other than Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher, who had come to offer his thoughts on the economic recovery bill.
The Senate staffers who showed up at 9 a.m. for the closed-door meeting refused to leak the contents of their discussion with the tradesman-cum-strategist, but Wurzelbacher himself revealed that the advice they soaked up was just good, old-fashioned “common sense.”
Wurzelbacher opposes the stimulus and said he questioned why the government can’t just cut its bills like other people do. He also advised staffers to take a harder line on the legislation: “Republicans on the Hill are afraid of saying too much,” he noted.
Further recommendations from the Karl Rove of the Commode included having “someone go in there and kick some ass.”
Staffers emphasized that he was there to give a different perspective on the stimulus debate — not to effect serious policy change.
Wesley Denton, communications director for Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), whose office coordinates the group, said, “I think staffers were happy to have him there and hear his perspective. He’s an interesting person for staffers to hear from, and it certainly helps us get an understanding about how the stimulus debate is playing out in the country with regular folks.”
“Joe,” who shot to stardom after being mentioned 22 times by Sen. John McCain during the final presidential debate last year, has proved to be a somewhat temperamental target for Republican adulation. He has been both a less-than-constant supporter of McCain (he once said the senator gave answers about the financial bailout that “appalled” him) and a less-than-ideal idol (he turned out to have been practicing his trade without a license).
His name isn’t really Joe — it’s Samuel — and the story he told Barack Obama on the campaign trail wasn’t exactly true.
He’s also had some tax troubles, which might have made him an awkward choice for a sage as Republicans take aim at the Obama administration for the tax woes of Tom Daschle and Timothy Geithner.
Nonetheless, the plumber clearly has his fans, both on and off the Hill. Velvetpaintings.com is selling portraits of the pensive-looking plumber-turned-pundit on black velvet for $250 a pop (“Quality You Can Feel”), and one excited staffer from DeMint’s office blasted this e-mail to her list on Monday:
“In case you weren’t planning to attend CWG tomorrow morning, you might want to reconsider because Joe the Plumber will be joining us!”
Sounds like nothing could have wrenched her away.

So... thoughts? A good move? A bad move? A "I just wish he'd go away"?
And yes, I did steal the headline, I liked it too much and it was better than what I came up with.

But they're both being pushed as the crown jewels of the Republican Party as if they'll be important in dethroning Sauron from the White House in 2012.

Yeah true, I can't see Joe lasting till 2012 as for Mrs Palin well she will be an old grandmother by then not to mention the intelligent members of the GOP wouldn't allow it.

nothing like putting on an act of silliness, to try to spin away from embarrassment.
they need to nominate condy rice for 2012. not that i'd vote for her over cynthia mckinny, or maxine waters, but at least it would give them a chance, one i don't really want them to have, but i feel pretty safe the're not going to go that way anyway.

No, no, I think it's a great idea (well sorta). He makes for a good target; one that would be easy to take down or prove corrupt(maybe even do himself in). He is really too much of a "normal" guy. I say let them have Joe so we can have our slaughter.
As soon as the Republican party gets serious about the problems facing our country, I'll start taking them seriously...
...still waiting.

If Obama doesn't fix the economy, it won't matter who the Republicans nominate - they could nominate a corpse, and they'll win.

Who the fuck is this guy? No, I mean really, who the fuck is this guy? I don't want to disparage him, I'm sure he's quite good at what he does, but who the fuck cares what a plumber things about the economy?

Because a broadcast journalist who has been in broadcasting for 30 years and has a degree in the subject from Cornell is obviously just as out of his league when it comes to politics as a plumber who nobody heard of 6 months ago and who, for all appearance, has no training, practice, or experience in politics or economics what so ever
If Keith Olbermann was a political nobody with absolutely no experience in the field whatsoever, I'd wonder what the fuck he was doing there too.

I get that feeling now and then. I swear, the greatest irony of the entire campaign was that McCain accused the DEMOCRATS of idol worship. The democrats? The republicans are the biggest idol worshipping, graven image carving crowd their is.
Look at the praise of regan and the criticism of Clinton. Clinton dared to get a blow job in the Oval Office! He defiled the sanctity of that special, special place. By having consensual sex with an adult, something that was perfectly legal (if not a big scummy) to do, and osmething that in no way related to his performance as president. Clinton is HATED, partially because he had sex in the oval office and, as such, is viewed as besmirching the role of the president.
Regan, on the other hand, is lauded for "never taking his jacket off in the Oval Office". seriously, this is often a compliment that's directed at the man. That he "respected the office of the president" so much that he wouldn't dare disrespect his role as president by dressing down in the office.
He also committed what is arguably high treason.
But he did it while wearing a suit, and that makes it ok.

it's not even the lack of training or experience - that's a gatekeepers game to keep insiders in charge.
it's the utter lack of insightfulness or analytic prowess or anything.
Joe the Plumber/News Correspondent/Policymaker/What Next? just needs to shut up already.

but that's the thing. To the republicans he's a hero beause he represents the "common man". The problem with that is, the common man is, by definition, average.
I don't want an average person's opinion about the economy. I don't want to know what the average person's opinion about how to fix this recession is.
I want the smartest motherfucker you can find. Fuck the common man.

The worst part is, to me, by insinuating that Joe is the "common man", it shows how little they think of the common man.
The guys a fucking idiot. The average, middle class American is smarter then that. I have to believe that.
