The vodka isn't really necessary. It helps to be in a pretentious, dull and wildly overrated black & white movie about numbers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi_(film)), but that's not really necessary either. The drill is the important bit (I was contractually obligated to make that pun, sorry).

Usually, yes, although there are some that promote worthwhile discussion, so I judge them on a case-by-case basis...
