Of the misery...

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090203/D964CQ181.html

Glad to see them getting the ugly side of marriage, and I hope they get some more - get married and divorced multiple times and see how much they like it.

I am all for gay marriage - and I'm also all for gay divorce. Why should heterosexuals be the only ones they make divorce movies about?

BOSTON (AP) - A lesbian couple who led the fight for gay marriage in Massachusetts has filed for divorce. Julie and Hillary Goodridge were among seven gay couples who filed a lawsuit that led to a court ruling making Massachusetts the first state to legalize same-sex marriages in 2004. The couple became the public face of the debate in the state and married the first day same-sex marriages became legal.

The divorce case was filed last week in Suffolk Probate and Family Court and was not unexpected. The couple announced they were separating in 2006.

Messages left for the Goodridges were not immediately returned Tuesday.

Hope it's a really ugly, expensive divorce...

Speaking as a hetero who has had two ugly divorces, if they want equality, they get to have an equal amount of misery and crap.

Why have marriage without the fun of divorce?

I call this equality. Call me when they have all the same legal troubles of divorce, the ugly fights, the child custody battles - everything.

Because that'll learn them to want rights.

I don't remember that many gay rights groups claiming that all the gay folks had perfect relationships and would never divorce.

I do however remember them wanting equal opportunities to either succeed or fail in marriage

how is this in any way embarassing "the cause"? The cause is equality. The cause is equal rights. The cause is the right to enter into a legal relationship, with all the rights therein, including the right to leave that relationship.

This doesn't "embarass the cause" in any way. The right to marry includes the right to end that marriage.

Geez, I feel sorry for them. Breakups are bad, and divorces are even worse.
I hope they can settle theirs with the least amount of pain and misery possible. :(

I don't really get why you would bear ill wishes towards them. Even if you disagree with their stance on gay marriage it's no reason to curse them. Besides HW, you didn't strike me as the religious type (am I wrong)?

Gay-divorce is just a logical consequence of gay-marriage. I suppose this is news in the states but gay-marriage and gay-divorce is old news in Canada.

Why, by doing what 50% of married couples in this country do?

They should have stayed together and put on a brave face for the cause.

Why the fuck should they have done that? Forgive me if I don't blame them from not taking tips from the "DK school of relationship advice" playbook

They need to do this - divorce and get ugly, and sometimes be hypocritical and stay together for the cause - or it isn't equality.

Third time's a charm. Seems to be working quite well now.

That, and unlike most men who get divorced, I got all of the money, the property, and sole custody of the children.

If you want advice on how to win at divorce, just drop me a line.

What the fuck is the matter with you?

Being part of a nationally-scrutinized and highly controversial campaign for recognition of a right is fucking stressful. Are you so impeded by prejudice that you cannot see that stressful events can affect ANY KIND of relationship to the point of ending it.

If I didn't know I'd get banned immediately, you would be good and charred right now for expressing such stupid, deliberate and hateful insensitivity.

I'm happy that you are happy about homosexuals getting a divorce. In a completely non-bigoted and non-trolling way.

I'm particularly amused at how one lesbian couple getting a divorce means "they" (all homosexuals) are now getting their fare share of misery (which is naturally a good thing, I admit in a completely non-bigoted way as just like you I have gay friends).

Stupidest. Thread. Evah!

Yes. People who campaigned for gay marriage getting divorced. What a happy occasion. The vindictiveness of the post suggests hostility towards gay marriage that you're unwilling to declare and admit to, and a desire to see those who were at the forefront of the campaign suffer. Or do you just like other people's marriages not to succeed out of bitterness because your own relationships have failed? Is there an argument at all?

My troll sense is definitely tingling... this is pathetic.
