Thomas Jefferson (for all his faults) along with other forefathers are the most oft early quoted about corporations and government. Were they right? Is it all coming true? Have banks and corporations led us to this point, and could lead us to our destruction? Or is this a too simplistic way of looking at it?

I'm pretty sure that his chatter about "corporations" was about farming co-ops. Keep in mind, language has changed a bit since he was about. See various 'ejaculation' lols from GCSE English Lit.
