Things that annoy you

Wilgrove

So what are the things that annoy you?

For me, idiots would be the big one, old people who drive cars that are too big for them, and are too damn slow, people who decide to strike up a conversation with the cashier while there's a line forming, and everyone's apparent need to call my best friend a man even though she's a woman. Although, it could be the short hair that throws people off.

I think everyone gets annoyed when the topic is 'your field' and somebody comes in that you perceive is talking nonsense.

That certainly happens a lot in politics - hence the difficulty in having a civilised conversation on the topic with people of completely opposite views.

Generally, lots of things. Very small things, usually, things like people parking on the pavement and the like.

At the moment, I'm greatly, massively even, annoyed at my friends and family at home.
I told everybody the date of our wedding back at the beginning of December, 2 months ago now, in an email. I hadn't heard from anyone yet, so was going to start calling round to see who would be arriving when, who would need accomodation, who would need transport, etc.
Now a friend of mine and my mom called me last Friday, telling me that they and about 5 other people (our guest list is only 20 people altogether!!!) will not be able to make that date, and it's an impossible date, and why did I pick that date?
Now, I need to point out that it's not the date we originally wanted, we had reserved a date a couple days later, but by the time we actually had the appointment at the registry office, they had already given that date to someone else. We basically had to take what was left.

So now I'm trying to arrange for another date (the registry office gave me a date a week earlier now), I can't reach the people at the hotel so I don't know if that'll go ok, and my BF can't say yet if he'll have to work on that day.

I am seriously pissed of at those people back home. Seriously.

Don't be stupid, that's only on Russian planes where they use old Ni-Cad batteries. Boeing use Li-Ion, so there is plenty of juice left even after trans-pacific flights, especially if you don't use the ciagrette lighter to charge your phone whilst flying. Electric planes FTW!

One thing that annoys me is when i'm playing GTA IV and kill a civilian. I try to play the game as a good guy, and obey the traffic laws when i can, and take extra care to not run people over when i have to run red lights and break the speed limit.

I was playing just now and hit some guy. It annoyed me so much i had to turn off my xbox and find something else to do.

It's just a game.

I hate it when I can't bowl over the civilians in the monster SUV I just stole because the slippery little eel managed to dodge my SUV of death. No instant gratification. I would then turn it around just to try and hit something else.

Now then... what annoys me?

Take a look at moderation and that should sum it up. Rule violations. People who break the rules and don't learn from it.

Idiot is a term coined by old psychiatric professions to refer to people with significantly below average intelligence. If you use generalisations as broad as this one prepare to be enlightened.
and NSG has a long track record of making bitching threads that end up in flames almost every time from my knowledge.
If someone or people's are irritating you, then don't worry about them and just deal with the job in front of you and accept that different people have different ideas of what is normal or accepted.
or if that doesn't work just distract yourself for a while in a hobby you enjoy.

I assure you i have learned a lot from my recent banning. Primarily that this forum is prejudiced against Scientology and it's beliefs. And that expressing a belief in the Church's findings regarding certain illnesses is grounds for being banned.

And maybe it is just a game, but i like to immerse myself in it. I dress up as the character i control sometimes.

You should know that the forum is prejudiced against anything and everything. Push the right buttons and they all come out of the woodworks. Trust me, you could be talking about nice fluffy blankets and there would be someone who is prejudiced against it.

As for the latter... it boils down to the choice of words and how you express those ideas. You can express highly controversial ideas and slip right under mod radar so long as you don't flame or troll.

Maybe immersion into a game isn't a good thing, especially if you try and become the character you're playing. It also seems to be that Niko Bellic is not the ideal character to emulate. :D
Cabra West

Banning someone for their beliefs is prejudice. If it's within the rules of this forum for a moderator to do that, then this forum is prejudiced, even if some of us that post here are not.

Nanatsu no Tsuki
02-02-2009, 16:33
I think it makes her ideas on religion a lot "less" than anyone elses. I wouldn't put much emphasis on the head of the KKK's opinion on Obamas presidency.

Neither would I, but that doesn't mean that to those to whom the head of the KKK appeal to, those ideas are less that those who think otherwise.

You see, let us take an example that appeals to you, because according to your information, you were an avid participant. Scientology. I, personally, think Scientology is a bunch of hocus-pocus. You, on the other hand, think something else. Does me thinking Scientology is a bunch of abra cadabra make the teachings of Scientology less for you? I would think not. Am I right?
Nanatsu no Tsuki
02-02-2009, 17:06

Not really, Valentasia. Asking for a rational explanation for things isn't being prejudiced against religion. Humans tend to want proof for things, and that need is an inherent in believers as it is in non-believers.

I'm nice to cashiers. Pointedly. I smile, I say hello, I thank them, I wish them a good [insert appropriate noun phrase], and I give my best to say it sincerely. Striking up a conversation isn't at all necessary in order to be"nice", and in fact, in that situation, is probably the contrary.

Not only because of the other customers - and remember that *the cashier* will have to bear the brunt of all those disgruntled customers in a minute - but also because maybe she doesn't want to have a conversation at that point, or maybe not with you, or they think the topic is uninteresting, but they have to be nice and reply in kind. And then there's those who have to fulfill a damn strict items scanned per minute quota, who're all but happy about customers lingering..

Women, sweety, women. I know I've never provided a pic of me on here (and never will), but you could have seen Poli's pic had you paid attention, and she fully warrants an all-out "woman".

Squeaky grocery carts.
People who leave cupboard/closet doors open.
When my kids leave the wrappers from the straws on their juice boxes scattered about the room.
Carefully and painstakingly explaining directions, only to be accosted by a chorus of "What do I do??"s five seconds later. Not aided by the fact that this happens 5-10 times a day.
When my mother calls me in to "fix" the remote control because she's switched it from cable to TV, even though she's done it 345645 times and knows VERY WELL why the channel won't change and that she has to press ONE BUTTON to fix it.
People who want to tell YOU something, but want you to come to THEM.
People who read out loud from the paper when you're reading your own section. One or two choice quotes is fine; a whole article is not.
The words "whilst", "amongst", "acrosst", etc. While, among and across will do just fine.
Dishes/glasses/tupperware containers that aren't microwave and dishwasher safe.
Cilantro. Specifically how it is hidden in things like innocent burritos, laying in wait for the moment it will make me vomit.
People who say "anywho".
The assumption that, without explicit contradictory evidence, I am by default a heterosexual and a Christian.
Bad poetry.
People who insist on sharing their bad poetry with the world.
Air bubbles in things that are laminated.
Crappy erasers on pencils that don't so much erase as leave a smear of graphite and pink, and/or tear a hole in your paper.
Dust.

No, you misunderstand. It kind of sounds like you are prejudiced against religion.

A prejudice is defined as an opinion on a subject based on little or no knowledge of the facts and realities of said subject.

I can honestly say I've got a more than decent knowledge of religion, so I'm hardly prejudiced.

But do feel free to call me prejudiced if that makes you feel any better.

A good friend of mine, when I protested the label of 'cynical' that she had given me, stopped in her tracks, stared at me and said, "Look, you hate everything except food, sex and your kids. And even then...."

To which I had to laugh and agree. So there you have it. The list of things that don't annoy me is much smaller than trying to actually think of all the things that do annoy me.
