Some rather intesting news. Some scientists at UC Davis have created a breed of flood tolerant rice.

This will be a huge boon for hunger issues.

Damn librawl universities!

Huh. I thought they already grew in flooded fields.I think in the article by 'flooded' they mean that the rice is entirely submerged, rather then mostly growing out above it. And possibly the salinity of seawater might have adverse effects on the regular rice.
Anyway, three to five times greater yield sound worthwhile, whatever the precise details about flooding are.

To post on topic flood resistant rice is an amazingly good thing considering the real possibility of oceans and other bodies of water rising. As such this strain of rice may keep us all in rice balls for a little while before the weather goes really wonky.

Rice is a staple crop in Asia. One that's more forgiving of less than ideal growing climates would do wonders.

Rice, Wheat, and Corn are the food staples of the entire world. Anything we can do to make sure those crops can grow and thrive in adverse consitions is undoubty a great thing.

Hmm... Wasn't that a point to selling guns to small tribes in Africa in the 80's. I bet the white rhino is greatful that they got guns.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you but with every advancement someone somewhere twist it for less than honorable purposes.
