Illinois senate votes to oust Governor Blagojevich
37 mins ago

CHICAGO (Reuters) – The Illinois state senate on Thursday convicted Governor Rod Blagojevich of abuse of power, removing him from office amid charges that he tried to sell the U.S. Senate seat once held by President Barack Obama.

More than two-thirds of the 59 senators, acting as a jury following the two-term Democrat's impeachment on January 9, voted to find him guilty, effectively ousting him from office.

The vote was televised live from the state capitol building in Springfield, Illinois. Blagojevich is the first governor in Illinois history to be impeached and removed from office.

Maybe if he'd been allow a greater breadth to obfuscate and present witness no one else could? It is so unfair that a political figure could be equal before the law

Impeached for something he wasn't found guilty of...Doesn't it work in reverse? ...Like, you can be impeached, and then you can be taken to court?

Yet. Court case still in process. Patrick "slow & steady" Fitzgerald will get him. And then I will do a happy dance in front of the Thompson Center.

There were recordings talking about him trying to sell off Obama's vacated Senate seat to the highest bidder.

If you get nailed on corruption charges in Illinois of all places, that's a sign that you've definitely fucked up.

He had a few crimes against him, most notably being caught on tape purportedly trying to sell the Senate seat that Obama vacated.

Stop it. You act as if impeachment is itself a form of due process, a trial of very specific jurisdictin, charges, and punishment.

I rebuke you.
