Bad is a matter of opinion; especially when a group like the cato institute is giving it.

My Granddad lived through the great depression and he would tell you FDR did a fine job.

The shrub's tax cuts were bad and didn't accomplish much.

When a person needs a job; he isn't going to believe that the free market faeries are going to wave their magic wands and everything will be good.
Well, hours worked never did reach the 1929 levels during the entire decade of the 1930s. Not before, nor after FDR's New Deal. I guess your Granddad had one of those jobs that kept the recovery from coming. I suspect, I'd see things his way in that case, too.

As far as Bush's tax cuts... The economy did grow. Tax revenue did increase. He just spent it too fast, with the Congress as a willing accomplice. Don't believe everything you read at MoveOn.org.

Can you prove that this is bad legislation?
Probably, but I don't feel like looking up the facts and figures. It's enough for me to see that most of the legislation doesn't take effect immediately, will probably cause great inflation, and is mostly pork.

What I will do is come back when the economy really sucks(Carter years) and say I told you so.

In other words, no you can't show that it's bad legislation, but the fact that you don't like it is good enough for you. Well, that's nice for you. We, however, need a little more than your say-so.

I do have plenty to base it on.

Milton Friedman.

Milton Friedman concluded that New Deal programs "hampered recovery from the contraction, prolonged and added to unemployment and set the stage for ever more intrusive and costly government."

No economics course in the West would seriously teach otherwise.

Most economic courses in the west, including those taught by Milton Friedman, concluded that the Depression was ended by WWII, a great show of fiscal stimulus(ie Keynesianism). Beforehand FDR didn't go far enough to change expectations. He was a half-hearted Keynesian at most.

Yeah, I prefer to trust factcheck.org (http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/have_tax_cuts_always_resulted_in_higher.html), NeuLeonstein's comments that the Laffer Curve only kicks in at incredibly high tax rates(I believe it was 75%-85%), and the Tax Foundation (http://www.nysun.com/business/bush-tax-cuts-increased-tax-base-study-says/84823/).

Yeah, right.

Democrats can trash everything President Bush did for eight years and that's OK. Republicans oppose the Dark Lord's transparent attempt to send the 63 million lemmings in this country over the cliff in support of his scheme to pay off every libtard constituency that has ever existed, destroy free enterprise capitalism and create the United Socialist States of America, and that's "naysaying" and "partisanship."

Rubbish.

And btw: if Tim Geithner, the Dark Lord's first tax-cheat cabinet appointment, was just "sloppy", and Puff Daschle is his second tax-cheat cabinet appointment, does that make Daschle the Dark Lord's "sloppy seconds?" Just wondering.

You can't call him the Dark Lord. Its racist.;)

Also, and more seriously, it is not hypocritical to attack Bush and defend Obama. Not all criticisms are of equal validity. Some carry more weight than others.

Lastly, Obama is not planning to destroy capitalism. He is not going to outlaw private property or business. However, he's hopefully going to regulate in order to protect the public and uphold the rule of law, and make sure people have basic rights like health care (ie, the right to life) protected.

McCarthyism was discredited a long time ago. Start living in the real world.
