Going to the chapel...

Neesika
27-01-2009, 05:01
Okay, it would never be in a chapel.

I debated posting this, not because it's 'bloggy' or 'spammy', but rather because I've already put the guy on the spot enough as it is...but the fact is, were it not for NSG, I would have nothing to announce in the first place. Also, this is Sinuhue...I only have so much mercy in me.

The long and short of it is, I asked Gift-of-God to marry me, and he said yes.

We met here, on NSG, a couple of years ago now, and slowly got to know one another. Our romance blossomed over at UMP, but we've kept ties to this place, and I definitely credit this forum in particular with providing the space for all this wonderfulness to germinate.

So thanks NSG, for being a place to inspire the kinds of passions that got us to notice one another...politics is a heady, lusty brew I tell thee...:D

*Flees wrath of Sinuhue*

You can imagine of course that the second scenario was my first choice, but a number of people convinced me that perhaps gentler methods were needed. I'm not sure what I did was actually gentler.

Four weeks in advance, I set up a gig at a cafe. The weekend Gift-of-God was in town was a rather bad one...most of my friends were gone on a skiing trip, else the event would have been much more attended. I think that worked out thought, I was more nervous than I expected! So Saturday night, there we are, a few friends, my mom, my brother, my grandmother, and some random patrons...GoG was tiredish, and I did my set fairly normally, albeit I admit, a bit faster than I usually do and with much less interest in explaining the songs (of which only the first and last were in English).

I wrote the last song to be the proposal. About half way through he sort of caught on to what was happening and gave me some interesting looks...luckily looks don't actually kill...and though I wasn't actually on bended knee, I indicated vocally that this was my intention, and I proposed. He was understandably shocked. Perhaps he said yes so that he could escape the clutches of my friends and family...

Well, he's safely back home and he appears to still be willing. Then again, he could just be applying to some sort of 'witness protection' like program. One never knows...

He's going to see this thread and say, "Would you PLEASE stop doing that?"

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHH!

No.

Ugh. Marriage is just a bourgeois mechanism for constraining human sexuality to create a fixed stable unit in which the next generation of workers can be brought up enslaved to the owners of the means of production. It is yet another case of a religious institution being used as a means of social control.

That said, I hope your reactionary and counter-revolutionary union is a happy one! :D

In my (admittedly age-limited) experience, an open bar largely obsoletes the need to serve dinner given that most of it winds up regurgitated into the nearest sink and/or toilet bowl the following morning.

Then again, as Americans we're quite stupid about when and where to drink excessively. Perhaps you Canadians are more sensible (incidentally, Poutine is wonderful).

You do realise that humour is a bourgeois, patriarchal concept? True Marxist-Feminists have no time for such notions, and find pleasure and satisfaction not through jokes and puns based on a commercialized popular culture, but rather through real equality in the social sphere in a new revolutionized family unit, and in the economic sphere through the realization of humankind's genuine species-being via equal participation in collective economic activity geared towards the achievement of planned economic goals.

It’s gone as quickly as has been natural. I am confident that GoG knows me pretty much better than almost anyone out there and visa versa. We’ve both had the benefit of a great deal of learning from past relationships, and have been completely frank with one another from day one. In contrast, I spent nearly 11 years with someone who never actually got to know or understand me, so I don’t feel there is anything inherent in ‘time’ that determines whether a relationship is going to ‘work’ or not. Yes, I’m in a hurry to get to where he is, but I don’t feel our relationship is rushed.

I understand that you in particular were not insinuating any such thing, but it has been stated openly to me by others in RL etc, and I thought I’d address it anyways as it was linked to the idea. Yes, the timeline is right, thought I don’t see it as unusually rushed...I’ve known quite a few people who clicked in very short periods of time. But porn wasn't the word it used. It was what the bot posted.

Oh. :p At least it wasn't some weird porn of Ayn Rand herself, at least I hope it wasn't!

The porn bot posted a topic called "quotations from ayn rand man depraved.

."

Oddly (or perhaps appropriately) enough, it was in the News forum.

Ahahahaha. Clearly I need to pop onto UMP more often now that even the pornbots are familiarizing themselves with the works of the eminent Russian-American philosopher Ayn Rand. :D

I am torn.

On the one hand, getting pimped out to half of NSG against my will.

On the other, really good sushi.

I cannot decide whether this is a net positive or negative. :p
Don't look at me. I'm just the supplier. The ONLY guarantee I offer is for good sushi. What one DOES with that sushi and their experience now...

Perhaps not. This wedding is sure to be a glorious occasion, for which the heavens themselves will emerge to celebrate the newlyweds.

My birth, on the other hand, was heralded by the arrival of fire and brimstone...and a large earthquake in the Bay Area about a year later.

Yay love!

Happy loving. Enjoy your marriage. :)

You should get someone to put your ceremony (especially if it's a Vegas wedding performed by an Elvis impersonator :D) and reception on the internet. My cousin did, for those of us that couldn't make it out to Washington state to attend his wedding. The great thing is, you can make it private, so only the people you want to see it can log in.

And it would actually be kiwîmiyawâtamowinâwâw, but danke:)
I take it: the circumflex means nothing more difficult than vowel-length?
The kiwi- prefix is 2nd person plural (or dual?)
The -awaw suffix is something like "let there be" (happiness to you)?

Close...the circumflex does indeed indicate a long vowel. The ki- prefix and -awaw suffix actually work together indicating that the subject performing the verb is 'you (plural)'. The wi- suffix is a temporal suggestive, meaning 'will'. The verb, "miyawâtamowin" is transitive inanimate meaning 'the act of celebrating (something inanimate) joyfully'. Marriage is inanimate. You are saying, "May you two joyfully celebrate marriage/life" or whatever.

You can just use miyawatamowin as a noun, but Cree is a much more verbal language, so it makes more sense to verbalise it, although as my love likes to say, verbing weirds words.

verbing weirds words.
I think anything can be verbed!
Hebrew is famous for taking any kind of root and making a verb of it. There is a passage in Genesis which literally reads, "And the sky birded with birds, and the sea fished with fish" (not generally translated that way, of course).

I think like most things, relationships are extremely contextual. Also, I think you would dare any number of things, but I don’t suspect you of questioning my decision, no:)

Sounds sound enough.

Why do you want to marry after all? /seriousness

Well, it's not so much the actual ceremony of marriage, and the status as 'married', it's my desire to express my love for GoG, and my intent to spend as much of the rest of my life with him as is possible. I just want it known, publicly, that I love him more than anyone else. Even if we don't end up having a traditional ceremony, I do want some sort of ceremony to reaffirm that, and it could be that we would continue to reaffirm that whenever possible.

So when I asked him to marry me, I'm not thinking down the line to a white dress or freaking doves or whatever, I'm just telling him that I want to love him and be with him, in as permanent manner as is possible. That manner, in this society, tends to exist in the concept of 'marriage'.

Yeah we are old school. He married me because he knows how much that commitment before my God and our loved ones meant to me. I know that he is commited to me in his heart and I am commited to him but out of respect for my beliefs ( I am a christian) he married me. Also I don't think he would have asked me if he didn't want to and it is my understanding that within satanism, it is more up to the individual to decide how they feel about the whole marriage thing. If and when we can afford to I would like to have a more satanic service with his friends down south but that may be awhile yet.

AS far as I know, Hans and Silver were the first to get engaged here, Me and Roan (CA) were the first to get married. There is at least one other couple who got married and there have been others who have formed serious relationships.
