Ok so yhea.

My car: '05 Cavalier
My Radio : Pioneer CD Head Unit with detachable faceplate and a pair of 10" American Bass XO's

My problem:
When I start my car (doors shut) my radio turns on and starts running through startup procedures, but turns off after a few seconds. If I shut off my car and open the PASSENGER door, it will turn on and stay on. If I close or keep the door open and start up the car again, it shuts off after a few seconds. If I open the passenger door, the driver door, and shut or keep open one or both of them somewhat randomly and start the car, I can get my radio to work, sometimes. After the radio works and I drive I can shut off the car and open the driver door, and it will shut off (like its supposed to). After this it will work like it should (start car = radio works, shut off car and open driver door = radio shuts off). If I shut off the car, open the door, and leave my car to sit for a few hours. It goes back to being messed up.

I checked the remote wire, disconnected and reconnected my battery several times (doors open, doors shut, head unit detached, head unit attached, key turned to accessory, ect.) but to no avail.

Help?

The car is possessed, bury it.

It'd be worth more if I did that. It's a POS anyways.

1. Why do you have a Chevy Cavalier? It looks bland and cheap, is uncomfortable and terrible to drive.

2. If you want to fix it, first take out the radio, take a multimeter and connect it to the power wires. Set it to 30V range. Monitor the voltage as you do the same procedures.

If it stays steady, the problem's with the radio.
Otherwise, with the car.

1. Didn't buy it. 'Twas cheap at an repo auction and i could afford. Plus good on gas. (5-spd)
2. Shit....but thanks. I was looking for some quick answer but alright. Good thing I have tomorrow off.

Anything with Chevy, Ford, or Dodge (With a few notable exceptions) in front of it is not fun.

friend had a similar problem. wiring in the door would short out and cause the the stereo to shut down to protect itself from being fried. he just had to replace the wiring.

someone suggested the multimeter check up try that. and if not take it into a professional being able to explain to him what you did with the multimeter will make him less likely to scam, and save him some time.
