Didn't they say this during the Clinton Administration?

As one of my past time, I like to annoy hard core Republicans. You know, those people who believe that the Republican Party can do no wrong, and if there's anything wrong with the country today, it's the Democrats. However, I have noticed that they started some sound bites that I'm sure was uttered during the Clinton Administration.

Obama, Pelosi, Ried will take away gun rights
Pelosi, Reid, and Obama takes away their freedom while reshaping the country into a Socialist republic (One of the people I mess with actually said this)
dissenters sent to re-education camps.
we can become the new Soviet Union
Radical Left are in control of Government.

Now I will be the first to admit that all parties suck, Democrats, Republicans and yes even my party Libertarians, but really?

I wonder if these people call into Coast to Coast AM and complain about the Freemasons and Illuminati.

Now this is not to say that the Democrats haven't overreacted when a Republican is elected into office, both sides overreact when the opposing party takes office, but this is just.....brain numbing stupid....

I find a lot of my professors like Obama. I'm not really surprised.

I'm not really involved in politics too much, but this is utter silliness. Though this alarmist attitude is almost as frightening to me as it is amusing. How do these people live with such a binary, narrow minded perspective? I can't even fathom it.

The funny part is that I was a highly conservative republican until I actually understood what the two parties supported. Thankfully I was never of voting age until I actually did the research...

Edit: Criticizing one's country and leadership is virtually always patriotic. How else can a country improve if it isn't scrutinized by its allies and enemies? Unless you're into repression of basic civil liberties anyway, then all bets are off.

Replace Obama, Pelosi, Reid with Bush, McCain, Palin, replace Socialist/Communist with Nazi, replace Left with Right.

I think both parties need to be watched like hawks, and either could throw us into a Facist/Socialist hell, but this rhetoric does get tiresome over the centuries.

It'd be better if more people voted third-party candidates; this would split the balance of power among more groups and there wouldn't be as much of an oligopoly of power.

I'm not really sure either. I think it has something to do with the whole "UN invasion" the right feared so much back then. A related thing is the "markings on the backs of street signs" that would supposedly guide invading UN forces to US military facilities.

Like the AR15 and the AK47, both of which I really really want.:)

Wilgrove, sure you don't need it, but it's nice to have, right? It's not like we need Corvette ZR1s or Ferraris or Lamborghinis, all of which are very fast and dangerous, but we're still allowed to possess them.

Would you support taking away those fast, exotic cars because they pose a danger to society in the wrong hands?

I'm asking because lots of people are under the impression that the "assault weapons ban" banned fully automatic weapons, which of course are already regulated by the National Firearms Act.

Yeah, they should rename it "Things that look like assault weapons ban". I mean, I know you can make it a fully auto weapon, but most people won't because of fear of the very harsh sentence you'll receive.

If a guy really wants to gun down his co workers, he'll find any way possible to do it, semi-auto/auto rifles or not.

Stupid bans.

While I wouldn't support the ban on sports cars, and the ban on assault rifles, I just don't see the point in having them.

Then again, I am the kind of guy who wants to own his own airplane for funies, so I probably have no room to speak. :p

Aha! All is clear now.

But in all seriousness I really hope the ban doesn't go through. I don't think it will, but there is that chance. That's the only thing I'm really worried about, along with the wars of course.

I honestly don't think he'd get elected again if he did pass a ban.
