Can you walk on a broken ankle?

Fucked up my ankle almost two weeks ago, the epic pain I had went away by lunch the day after it happened, but it's been sore at times, and the swelling never went down.

I'm finally home, so I'll be going to the doctor tomorrow, but I thought I'd make a thread on here about it for shits and giggles.

Ever broke any bones?

Not that I know of, but I hear people regularly break bones in their feet and never notice.

No, you can't walk on a broken ankle. The worst you could have is a sprain.

Never busted any bones - but not for trying. Managed to destroy most of the cartilege in one knee, though.

I had my zygomatic bone broken once, but I didn't break it.

Other than that, no. *knocks on wood*

And unless you're a zombie, I doubt that you could walk on a broken ankle. It'd be painful, painful!

According to my husband and WebMd you can't walk on a broken ankle, according to an x-ray and my doctor, I did.......however, it was fractured and I ended up just needing a walking cast.......but still, it wasn't "just a sprain".

I've had fractures before. Ribs and toes at various times. I didn't see a doctor for any of that, though, so I can't be completely certain.

I smashed the fuck outta My heel...

My friends shouted for me to "Tuck and Roll" and jump out of the car...i opened the door, intending to just stumble out about 5mph or so, but i seriously misjudged it and came out at about 20 or 30mph...scratched up alot, but, I only broke the heel on my right foot...but, it wasnt like a traditional broken bone, Idk if you can even do that to a heel, but, it did chip a bit of it off...

Fully healed up nowadays though, only noticeable sign is a rather deep scar...

I dunno, I broke my wrist when I was 8 and wouldn't stop crying, so my dad finally took me into the Emergency Department at 2 in the morning, 8 hours after it happened.

I also tried to flip off a swing once, and ended up breaking my right hand. It didn't really hurt after the intial shock, and I didn't get it checked out until after school the next day, because my teacher was worried.

Why were you jumping out of a perfectly good car?

It was pretty good...I was actually in the Passenger seat, It was one of my friends drivin, lol...

It was actually pretty funny when he got out, he's all "OMG I cant believe you actually did it, We didnt think youd really do it, Are you Okay!@?"....Im just like, "yeah, Im fine, but your car's on my foot"...He freaked, lol...

I got up and walked back in, I actually couldnt feel anything, Wasnt until I got inside and turned the lights on that I realized I trailed a buttload of blood across the floor, then It began to hurt like hell...

EDIT: And, BTW, i wasnt able to really walk on it, but, I couldnt stand the Crutches it just was annoying as hell to walk with them, So I just kinda hobbled on the front of my foot, and just didnt use the heel, lol...

lol, dont worry, we all learned our lesson about that, It was back in High School and we were really into car surfing...A little later one of the guys in the car at the time, stood on the back of another car, unbeknownst to the driver, and when she backed up...

He came right off, face first, messed up the front line of his teeth....that was effectively the end of our Car Surfing days...

I have sprained ankles several times because mine aren't formed right and can pop out of place at random times causing falls and sprains. Broke em twice too and I did walk on em mainly because I hated the crutches and trying to navigate stairs with them, it was easier to take the steps with my bad ankle although it hurt like heck. so you CAN walk on a break but I wouldn't advise it.

Broken bones? No, certainly not. I have always had an exceedingly overdeveloped sense of and aversion to danger.

Well, you CAN walk with a broken ankle, the really important question is if you enjoy physical pain or not, also doing it is not good for your leg.

I dunno, I broke my wrist when I was 8 and wouldn't stop crying, so my dad finally took me into the Emergency Department at 2 in the morning, 8 hours after it happened.

I had a similar experience. When I was 12 I fell off my bike, it was about 10am. My dad, who was a doctor, thought I'd sprained my wrist. Finally at about 9pm, after my mum told him a few times that she didn't think I would have kept complaining about the pain if it was only a sprain, he took me to get it x-rayed. Turned out it was broken & I had it in plaster for 4-6 weeks.

I smashed a finger & thumb, which required surgery and a full hand & wrist cast for 6 weeks.

I've also broken fingers a couple of times.

I think you could walk on a broken ankle, if it wasn't too badly broken. It would be very painful though.

Are you sure?Nah, not that, that's not how you do it at all. You have to have some other completely unrelated sequence and series of circumstances that puts the analogy on, and then you'll suddenly figure out just exactly why you or they're sure it's not lupus.

While I never broke any bones, I once came very close. You see, I sometimes played tetherball at summer camp, and one time I mtried to hit the ball, but misjudged it and only my pinky made contact. It wasn't broken, but it swelled up like a puffer fish at the RNC. It took a good THREE YEARS or so before my pinkies were the same thickness.

I broke my leg when I was less than a year old; the story involves learning to walk, and a Big Wheel. Needless to say, there are plenty of amusing pictures of me crawling around with a big cast on my leg. I also broke my thumb several years back in a ski trip gone horribly wrong.

The irony is that a sprain takes longer to heel than a break.

Yeah, depending on how it's been broken, you could definitely walk on it.

Busted up mine playing football. Coach knew something happened to it, my parents told me to walk it off. So i did. Then it didn't get better :P

Left wrist, Right Ankle. Different times, I walked as far as the 20 feet to my front door after breaking the ankle, and that was 20 feet farther than I wish I would have walked.
