What was your favorite Blaxploitation genre movie?

Mine is probably anything with Pam Grier in it. 'Foxy Brown' comes to mind.

Probably the toughest vote I've ever seen on NSG. Had to go with Foxy Brown in the end, but I have so much love for Shaft and Sweet Sweetback...dude.

Tee-hee. There's a film called "Shaft".

Sorry. I've got nothing, never even heard of any of these movies, or at the risk of sounding like a total numpty, even of that genre of film :(

Shaft. The opening credits (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDyRdhSIqlo&feature=related) sum up why.
1. Theme song by Isaac Hayes
2. His first line is "Up yours! Get out of the way!"
3. He makes a trench coat and turtleneck sweater look good, something I didn't think was possible before.

Sadly, Shaft has fallen by the wayside and been forgotten by the up and coming generation. I only knew about the song (and then learned about the movie) because it was featured in an episode of Father Ted.

Bitch, you best let me pass before I shove these hush puppies up your motherfucking ass.

Not the best in terms of quality, filmmaking or story, but certainly a favorite in terms of the character created, I gotta give it up for Rudy Ray Moore's Dolemite.

To add another flavor of blaxploitation film, I'll give a mention to Car Wash, which opens with George Carlin so you'd think Lunatic Goofballs would have mentioned it :P

And now, thanks to the poll choices, I have "Ease on Down" stuck in my head...

This topic makes me very happy.

I have a thing for Pam Grier, and her fantastic tits. Foxy Brown is the film I've watched the most. I love Dolemite because it was the first spoof of the genre, done at the time the genre was still in its height...for later spoofs, "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" is also quite fantabulous.

How can you NOT like blaxploitation movies? The women are tough, the pimps are tough, the word is seedy and dirty and corrupt and people with street sense take it upon themselves to clean it up...jive talking all the while!

The Black Six

From the back of the DVD... cardboard case thing....

A black high school student is beaten
to death by a white biker gang when he's
caught dating the gang leader's sister

The dead boy's brother is a member of
a black biker gang, and when they hear
about the brother's murder they come
to town to take revenge!

Six times tougher than Shaft!
Six times rougher than Superfly!

I haven't watched much, other than the Shaft trilogy. (Shaft, Shaft's Big Score, and Shaft goes to Africa)

Pam Grier is the hottest thing since Sinuhue.

Shaft.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaft_(1971_film)

According to Melvin Van Peebles, the original production was of a white detective story, but after the success of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971), the original script was scrapped in favor of an adaptation of Ernest Tidyman's 1970 novel Shaft, which focused on an African-American detective.[1] Tidyman, who was white, was an editor at The New York Times prior to becoming a novelist. He sold the movie rights to Shaft by showing the galley proofs to the studio (the novel had not yet been published). Tidyman was honored by the NAACP for his work on the Shaft movies and books.

Why do you keep bringing up the British economy?

I can explain.

There's a small but dedicated cult of people who follow/stalk Nanatsu no Tsuki, calling ourselves the Slaves of the Seven Moons (I wanted to call us the Fan-atsus or the Nan Fans, but it was thought that the word play would escape our Japanese members, sort of the same reason that "Legally Blonde" in Japan was released as "Blonde Lawyer", because the word play of Legally Blind wouldn't really translate) and one day, we were having a budget meeting (we had just paid $14,454 USD to Neo Art as a retainer to handle cult legal business, but it fell through because it turns out his principal job was going to be defending Intangelon from allegedly sending a threat to the Icelandic Prime Minister, when in fact 'Tange was just sending some hyper-violent hentai porn to his friend Anurag Dikshit and hit the wrong key, and I figured since we were getting the 14 grand back we should take a field strip to Spain to test our binoculars, but Neo Art said he had already spent most of the retainer preparing the defense case, which turned out to mostly include $13,860 worth of hyperviolent hentai porn and related action figures, so we had a meeting about it) and anyway, the issue came up about The Boondocks, which is about black culture but uses a sort of anime-esque style, and they had a character called Bushido Brown, a reference to the hyrbid genre Blaxploitation-Martial-Arts.

That's why I keep bringing up the British Economy.

The song and movie are referenced all over the place (IMDB has an incomplete list on their movie connections page), but the movie isn't very well known. It is really odd.

the only one, other them meteor man, if even that was the name of THAT one, (which was a lot of fun), i remember seeing, there was some woman who was some kind of international cop or something, and there were a bunch of burning poppy fields at the end, that i haven't the slightest idea what the name of it was.

i do remember, back in the 60s, down in the bay area (san francisco) there WERE a lot of these, showing at movie houses down there all the time. more then half i think had some kind of martial arts theme too.

other then shaft, which i remember only because of the name and isaac hayes music, not, as far as i know, ever having seen it, unless that's the same one i described above, i don't recall the names of any of them. i mean there were hundreds of them. and i never was all that much of a movie goer.

only movies, other then railfan train tapes that intrest me are science fiction and fantasy with lots of psychodellic special effects, or lots of innocent sex, or interesting combinations of both (and other then barbarella, i don't remember the names of any of THOSE either)
