Ayers Refused Entry Into Canada

William Ayers, the 1960s radical whose ties to President-elect Barack Obama caused trouble for his campaign, was turned away from Canada Sunday night as he tried to enter the country for a series of educational events.
Jeffrey Kugler, the executive director for the Center for Urban Schooling at the University of Toronto, said Ayers was deemed not admissible after being pulled aside by Canadian immigration officials while trying to clear customs at the Toronto airport.
Ayers had been invited to speak before the center. He was also scheduled to meet with the Toronto District School Board and do interviews with Canadian television and radio stations, Kugler said.
Kugler said the center sent e-mails notifying guests who planned to attend Ayers' talk that he had been turned back. Kugler said the center will try to reschedule Ayers.
Ayers, a co-founder of the violent Weather Underground group and current education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, told the Toronto Star that he didn't know why he had been turned away.
According to Kugler, Ayers was told he could request a hearing but that would mean some sort of detention and a possible two week wait. Ayers opted to return to Chicago.

Funny, I didn't read anything about nails or dynamite in the article you linked to. And I tend to think that if he had a bomb in his luggage as you imply, they'd do more than refuse him entry... you know, like, arrest his ass?
You need to read more about the man. Where did I say the nail reference was in the article I linked? Here's a hint - I didn't.
He's probably on a terrorist watch list - because of his previous actions and his public statements that he "didn't do enough" even though he admits involvement in many blasts and admits publicly to putting nails in the bombs.

That is the opposite of what he said. He said he regretted the bombings, which were useless; but he regrets that he didn't do enough to stop the killing in Vietnam. He wishes he had done more good.

It said Ayers was refused entry because of a 1969 conviction during an anti-war demonstration.
The release also said Ayers was not allowed an opportunity to meet with his lawyer. A call to Ayers' lawyer was not immediately returned Monday.
Ayers told Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper that he has traveled to Canada more than a dozen times in the past.
"It seems very arbitrary," he said. "The border agent said I had a conviction for a felony from 1969. I have several arrests for misdemeanors, but not for felonies."
So they don't have a very "clear" idea at all if they are saying that he's being denied (now) for a supposed felony that happened forty years ago. This felony that apparently was just OK with them several times previously.
And they don't have any idea at all about "intent" since they are clearly stating it's for something that allegedly happened in the past, not something he intended to do in the future.

When I say, "We didn't do enough," a lot of people rush to think, "That must mean, 'We didn't bomb enough shit.'" But that's not the point at all. It's not a tactical statement, it's an obvious political and ethical statement. In this context, "we" means "everyone."

Canadian border guards are morons; few if any of them have a clear indication of what they had for lunch. My brother-in-law, with no criminal record, barely gets through the border these days because his name shows up in a Google search about the anti-FTAA demonstrations in Quebec City.
