That's what the sign reminded me of - the attempt in the movie Animal House to put a fraternity on "double secret probation".

It's already illegal to engage in prostitution in Washington DC - I'm going to have to collect one of these signs because it's illustrative of idiot government.

I do think it's funny that the signs read as though under ordinary circumstances, prostitution is somehow legal in DC.

well, if all forms of prostitution are illegal in DC... then the politicians would either 1) have to stop screwing the people or 2) not get paid by the people. :D

Not already legal, but already not enforced very hard unless it's a nuisance. the signs are basically saying "we know we look the other way because murder takes precedence, but this is a special occasion, and we'd like to show a semblance of decency for a couple of days. Know that we're going to crack down hard while the Inauguration's going on. After that, business as usual."

sounds like a psychological thing to crack down on crime like a friendly reminder to the trucker that he is a very naughty man

Yeah, like they have such a great clearance rate on murder cases...

48%, while the national average is 65% (that's arrests made in murder cases, not convictions...).

I wasn't trying to make a statement about the DC murder arrest rate, but hey, you go to town.

It's notice that if you're caught fucking around in the street, or trying to negotiate a pay-for-play, you're facing a $300 fine on the spot.

What's so hard to understand about that?

I dont see why its not legal anyway....Its the world's Oldest profession, youre wasting your time trying to stop it...And if it was legal we could regulate the Disease involved, and, more importantly, Tax it, lol...

What's so hard to understand that it's already illegal, and the way the sign is worded, one might get the impression that after the expiration date, one can pay for a fuck?

Are you saying you cant already? If its illegal anyway, who cares about a Fine, lol...

Apparently *you* didn't read the article attached. It just allows cops to give two people engaging in prostitution or negotiating a fee for it an instant fine, and it informs people of that. No one with more than two braincells active would think prostitution was otherwise legal in DC.

Isn't this an obvious ploy to give police carte blanche to investigate any two people talking? I would assume that this is a function of the heightened security of the upcoming inauguration.

Plus, they get to kick all the hookers out. Two birds with one stone, as it were.

One would get that impression, if one were a human with the brain of a walnut and the memory or a mayfly. The impression more likely to come across, to anyone not deliberately misinterpreting the sign, is that it's a crackdown. You know, like when the cops put up sobriety checkpoints on Amateur Night holidays like New Year's and St. Patrick's Day. Drunk driving is still illegal, but on those nights, you're far less likely to get away with it. Same deal with those signs in DC.

I assume I am not the only person who read this at a glance as "Prostitutes on Double Secret Penetration"

It's remarkably difficult to keep double penetration a secret. *nod*

What you mention here is exactly what they are doing. This isnt to much about prostitution. Why don't they just declare martial law and stop with the bs. ;)

So - how can any politician be sworn into office if prostitution is illegal? I know I'm probably not the first or the last to ask this...
