Your Desktop Background?

Not sure if this has been done, but hey, what the hell.
Well, people's desktop backgrounds and the general stuff that can be found on people's computer desktop can say a lot about them and I was wondering. What sort of things do people have and is there any particular reason or story behind it.
http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo10/xresNTAP/Picture2.png?t=1232284055
Like mine for example is an old photograph I found of my great-granddad who fought at the beginning of world war 2 which is important to me because... Well, I dunno why, It just is to me. (He is the one in the middle sitting holding the cards by the way)
But the point is, does anyone else's desktop have any specific meaning to them? Or even somethign as simple as "Well, I jus', ya know, like the pic and um... It is like, my desktop and everything, like"
Oh, and I want to see who here is a windows user and who is a Mac user xD

My desktop. Somewhat littered with icons, but I don't think it takes anything away from the rather pretty piece of graffiti art that is my desktop. It's a picture I took a couple of years ago in Bristol, before I came to uni. It was taken when me and some of my mates were going through a period of going on UrbExes, and this piece was located in an abandoned car dealership, which itself was converted out of a rather large town house. This was upstairs in the actual house part, which was probably used as offices by the staff of the dealership. I really like the way the graffiti overlays the old wall paper, as well as continuing over the door.

Yep, it takes a brilliant mind to come up with a strictly functional desktop, without useless background picture, menu animations, startup music, sounds on every bloody action, etc. etc. etc.
Oh, and: Win2K, haven't yet found a reason to move to anything newer than that.
Oh, and and: no, I'm not at all conservative, just don't like useless bling-bling...

My wallpaper is just solid black atm, but I have used Oblivion screenshots (made by yours truely) and I had a Millennium Falcon picture for a while.
These may have been the coolest, though. I used them for a long time after I took the screenshots when I watched Serenity. The resolution from the DVD captures wasn't as clear as I'd like when stretched to a 19" monitor at 1280 x 1024, but cool nonetheless:

well, i don't use desktop shortcuts, so i tend to get rid of them. my quicklaunch toolbar on the other hand (as i said earlier) has a pretty big and cluttered arrary of programs and shortcuts milling around in there.
i don't see the point of desktop shortcuts. in order to use them, you have to be able to see your desktop, which means you can't use them while you're running even one full-screen program. run more than one and you start to get into a pain in the ass to minimise them all. you could press win-M but then it messes up the order for alt-tab, which is even more of a pain in the ass.
the quicklaunch shortcuts can be used from within any program (apart from games and other 100% full-screen progs), which makes far more sense to me.

1. capture an image if the desktop.
2. set image as desktop
3. hide all the shortcuts, folders, and other icons in a single folder & disguise it as best you can.
4. (windows) hide the taskbar

My desktop (shrunk a bit for manageability). The picture is coverart from the kidneythieves second album, zer0space, converted to grayscale and with a gradient at the edges so that it fits on the screen.

I shall go to bed tonight, dreaming of what wondrous things might be contained within a file named "meat.doc"

I cycle between images of Vocaloid characters. ;)
I have a black screen placed on my desktop to save power and monitor bulb life. Ironically, this no longer has any benefit since I have an LCD monitor. But I find it less distracting than pictures.
On my work monitor I have a picture of orange fall foliage on trees.
XP Pro in both cases.

LG must have died, because that sounds like channeling his spirit :P OK, not quite his style, but I lol nonetheless
*edit* This was the Oblivion screenshot I used for a long time. I turned ff the crosshairs, but I should have also turned off the entire HUD.

That's the first thing I though as well. Which reminds me, I've changed desktop picture to this.

We'll see how it works out as it isn't formatted for my screen.:(

Also you can see that I am a complete mess with no sense of organization.

That gradient works really well with the album cover. Well done.

I sometimes temporarily add more shortcuts, but usually it stays as clean as that.

It's the last survivor of a 19th-century orange orchard that was adjacent to a mid 19th-century colonial settlement archaeology site I worked on between 2005 and 2007 in south Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.

Auntie Witch from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
That was a phenomenal movie. I remember I got interrupted in the middle of watching it and had it paused at that particular moment for hours.
Based on an interesting book, as well. :)

Amazing that you were stopped at that scene.
I think Makoto is just about the most wonderfully realised character in any anime I've seen.
I haven't read the novel but, as I understand it, Auntie Witch, or Yoshiyama, is the protagonist from the novel - which explains why she understand's Makoto's problems so well.
Her feline stretch is alluring. The picture is very appropriate for a desktop. I keep finding myself imitating her action while at the computer.

I honestly wish I could find that particular picture. Did you do a screencapture or download it from somewhere?
I kept skipping back to that one scene because I found the contrast between their faces to be hilarious, hence why I wound up paused there for so long. Great use of eyebrows. :D And it really is a quite feline stretch. I've always stretched like that or sat weirdly all over the place (though ironically I've never owned a kitty).
I feel that the consequences of Makoto's actions were carried forth and revealed extremely well.

Unfortunately, Photobucket limits the size I can upload.

Thank you so much. I'm trying to dig it out of my "Anime" folder, but it's stubbornly resisting all efforts to be found.
