What does your desk/work/pr0n station look like?

Been a while since we had one of these threads, so I thought it might be fun. So, if you feel like participating, kindly furnish a picture of the place from whence you post on NS, work, surf for porn and so on. Feel free to label things if you think it's not clear what they are, lest people ask you questions, which they of course may.

I'll get us started:

What is required for a picture of this most intriguing clutter? :)

I lack a desk.

Yet you still have some place you put your computer. Post a pic of that place, be it your lap or your mother's.

I am not bound to desks like most folks. No, I compute wherever the fuck I feel like it. Right now it happens to be an armchair.

Eh, I'm short, the height's not uncomfortable. As for the radiator -- work in progress. Eventually I'm having covers made for that one and the ones in the bedrooms. (The painter chose gold -- he believed it would look better with the desert sand walls than the traditional silver.)

My workplace is currently consisting of a desk and some more furniture with: 2 laptops, 1 server, 3 printers, a VOIP phone, a scanner, a network switch, an ADSL modem, a KVM switch, and a really really incredible amount of cables connecting the whole lot, and this all adorned with a shredder, two (weighing) scales, a paper cutter, and a gigantic mess of pens, pencils, tape, boxes of envelopes, labels, paper, and what the hell else one uses in an office.

Edit: it doesn't all fit into one picture, but this (http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/7875/myworkplacezx9.jpg) is the best I can do.

What is the funnel for?

Interesting. You're a Swedish doctor who studied medicine in a Swedish school and yet a significant number of your books are in English.

You have, incidentally, excellent taste in literature.

Swedish is a small language with not a lot of speakers, medical students that speak the language are an even smaller number of people. Hence Swedish medical textbooks tend to be either a lot more expensive than English ones or just not exist because they wouldn't be profitable. So a lot of my books are in English, with my anatomical atlas in German and some other things in French, with bits and pieces in Swedish. It's always been like this, only that the lingua franca used to be Latin, then German, then French and so on. The annoying thing is the anglophone world doesn't use Latin for medical terms (instead they fake it with pseudo-Latinised English), while the rest of us do, so that explains the German anatomical atlas.

Thank you, by the way.

My desk - the computer on the left is actually owned by one of my housemates, but I use it so I can play Company of Heroes against him and another housemate without it being vastly lagtastic - my now rather elderly Dell just can't cut the mustard with basically any modern game, which is a shame.

Other junk you can see is a few sprues from a WH40K model I'm trying to convert but not really getting around to do it, as well as the contents of my pockets, iPod and my AirSoft gun. Yes, I know, it's bloody green...

Your desk looks rather cramped, Fass.

It's the perspective that makes it look so, for instance the screen is 24" and fits quite nicely. The desk is roomy enough for one person, but I will be buying a new one soon since this one was bought second hand during my poor student days. It looks cheap because it was.

I can understand that. I didn't get this huge desk till some stuff happened and my old room got taken over by one of my sisters, so they gave me what was the computer room, and I kept the computer desk.

Then luckily, I don't play games that require more than either a keyboard or a simple mouse interface.
I can press 5 keys at once, if necessary, but my mousing accuracy is about in the range where I'd move it to New York on a world map, and end up clicking somewhere in Texas. having to use all kinds of buttons on all sides only aggravates that.

It's also hindered somewhat by people having the mouse sensitivity turned up massively high, so the slightest breath of air or muscluar twitch sends the pointer right across the screen. This can cause havoc on a lot of computer games.

I prefer the old two-button and roller-thingy mouse, although I can't stand roller-balls. I've spent too much of my time picking out the gunk that collects in them in order to make them function properly again.

My mouse has five buttons, but I only ever use the main three. The two little ones on the side are too much work to get too (it is much easier just to Shift-Click, or whatever). If my mouse had more than five buttons, it would probably start to intimidate me, and that would irreversibly shift the balance of power in my room.

Nah, that would be fun but then I can't reach it when something goes wrong. Eventually my keyboard will be on some sliding planclike thingy under the tracks (behind the chair) and all will be well.:p
You should mount it on a train carriage. Then you can drive your keyboard around :)

How do you? :-P I have two tables put together so they form an L. And every square cm is filled, be it CDs, CD cases, DVD cases, paper, pens, a placemat with bottles (today, no empty ones - I call that "cleaned"). Oh, and postcards and invoices I paid via e-banking.
I agree. The only reason you could see the top of the desk in my picture was that I only moved into this house about 36 hours ago (12 at the time of picture) and hadn't had a chance to properly mess it up.

Now, however it is a different story.

I am oblivious to everything but the prominently displayed copy of Dune on your desk. It is in suspiciously good condition, however...but I am going to assume your old copy was so worn, you were forced to buy a new one.

I wasn't sure it was possible for you to be even more awesome than you already are, but you've just proven me wrong.

My old copy is not in English. I find Frank Herbert in his own words to be... peculiar.

I have yet to figure out how to use my digital camera. My "work/play" station is a tiny computer desk, shaped like a rounded crescent. My monitor, a speaker (semi-functional), a vase full of non-working pens, a lamp, a book of Shakespeare's plays, an empty cracker box, some used tissues, my cell phone and a mini-organizer full of old bills reside on it. There's a tall bookcase to the right filled with books, a mirror, tweezers and high-powered binoculars. On the left, on the floor is my computer, and to the left of that is a low table with the printer, a landline phone, printer paper, a phone book and a larger organizer with one cartridge of printer ink in it.

thanks! its a Dell XPS M1730 with SLI graphics, RAID striped HDDs and 4Gb of ram. its used for work and for home, for light video editing, web design, desktop publishing, graphic design... pretty much anything, so it had to be a pretty powerful thing. also had to use it for presentations (so it had to be a laptop). iirc it was about £2k, sometime last year.

Wine is fantastic, provided it's done right. "Folk" wines, or "country" or fruit wines are very popular here (meaning wines not made from grapes), although I suspect you can find a great many tasty foreign wines in Boston. Of course, since it's $6.49 for a bottle of Great Lakes Red it doesn't have to be spectacular.

Unibroue makes fantastic beers, and I hope it gets stocked more locally. Of course, in a town of 35,000 (twice that if including students) one can only expect so much...
