Simple as the title suggests. The doomsday people are correct in 2012. However its not a comet, nuke war or Xenu showing up. Most are caught off gaurd by a US Default. How would the meltdown work itself out?

What sort of default? Like Zimb? Or the old fashioned 'piss off' to creditors foreign and domestic?
Personally, I don't see either happening. I think social security and medicare will just be canceled.
US Default? is that like Ctrl-Alt-Del? :D

Personally dangerous for whoever's signing that bill. All sorts of pissed off rich people, foreign and domestic.

This is my prediction as well.

Anyone remember Millerism...That guy who said the world would end in 1843...then when it didnt claimed it would be 1844 instead...and then claimed that he read it backwards and it was actually 4481 lol...i think the two movements have much in common, lol...

The world won't end. The nation won't end either. The currency has probably reached it's natural life expectancy however.
In itself, this is no big thing. It is not as if a dollar today is similar to a dollar forty years ago, and it is completely different to a dollar ninety years ago. Currency gets defaulted and changed all the time, it is the way of governments because they always overspend. (The only international law is that the pigmen get paid. Always). However, depending upon the actual nature of the default, it can be a painful event for society causing: mass unemployment, debt servitude, deflation, inflation, poverty &c. in a variety of combinations. But eventually it all gets worked out. And fifty years from now it will be about as important as hyper-inflation in Hungary in the aftermath of WWI.
Unless adolf shows up.
I wonder what will happen to the remains of Mayan Culture when we surpass the year 2012....

Does this mean that the "big red button" automatically goes off in 2012? Kind of like the new Y2012K bug?

The Saudis do own about 1/3 of our stock market.
However we own about the same of theirs. Interdependence makes economics so much more complicated...
