It hasn't created time travel yet, so I can't get back the 30 seconds it took me to access, read, and reply to this thread.

Well, there's the obvious fact that it produced someone who'd make a thread like this.....

Nor has it developed a booming wizardry based economy. It's very saddening that we all can't go around casting spells whilst sporting great beards and large hats.

Och there's enough people loving Magick and that kind of teenage wank. Please don't let this propagate.

Don't exactly get what you people are trying to point out... Unless this was a thread topic before and I should probably request a mod to delete this.

I've noticed on NSG that people seem to have something to criticize about the US such as Obama, the fact that George W. Bush has been president for the last 8 years, healthcare, etc. In my own ways, I've been similarly disappointed.

They're ripping the piss out of you for asking stupid, stupid questions.

Only a handful of the valid complaints available.
In my own ways, I've been similarly disappointed.
It's very much mutual.

Which is silly as hell because Prop 8 is a Californian thing, not a US thing.

Well, the fact that this thread is a lame premis that is just an excuse for nationalists to bitch about the current big kid on the block, and the US nationalists to get all pissy and throw a fit...

The wizardy is called wall street in conjunction with their friends in D.C.

(The large hats would have been allowed, but due to a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by Vatican City, they have permanently been revoked--and those beards have been dropped for the various forms of gotee.)

Prop. 8

Prop 8 was California, not the US. At the same time prop 8 passed, CT and MA reaffirmed their stance that gay marriage is legal. Three of the remaining four New England states have it on their immedate agenda

Right, my mistake. I guess I should replace it with the Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow case.

But, fuck, man, I love this country. (Even though I want to strangle some of the people that go about the business of running it, a lot.)

Why would that disappoint you? From what I understand Newdow won the case but it was appealed. Does the way our court system of appeals works disappoint you?

Biggest disappointment? Our t.v. is mainly mush designed for the 8-14 year-old demographic. It makes sense given that we're in the middle of a baby boom, and there's always the internet, but it's an international embarassment.

Well, depends on what you compare it to. Compared to, say, Russian TV, I'd say it's pretty damn good.

Homestead act, right?

Is that law/act still in effect? If so, that would be badass.

I think that one was after the Civil War as part of Reconstruction. The Homestead Act was a significantly better deal, giving you a good 160 acres to farm. I mean, the thought of getting my own 160-acre plot to use for whatever I want is pretty damn cool...use it for camping, hunting, gardening, pretty much anything.

That makes me a sad Panda. I wanted to file for my own plot of land.

You still can. There are ways. Weirdos do it, out there buying up the mineral rights with their metal detectors and things. It's not the original act, but you can get government land out in the boonies for cheap.

Don't we all. It's true, too, according to pamphlets I've seen at gun shows, usually located between the ones about Zionism and the Reform Party.

Seriously though, the Bureau of Land Management sells land periodically, out in the boonies, for low prices. But you pretty much get what you pay for. It's a dream if your dream is to live "off the grid," but property management firms are usually wise to the good stuff before you or me.

In what ways has the United States disappointed you?

Coming from a non-American, probably the biggest disappointment would have been in the development of its transportation network, and the heavy emphasis on the Interstate Highway System after the 1950s. While the parts of the United States west of the Mississippi were to sparsely populated to justify rail improvements, nevertheless, it could have been done in the East and perhaps the United States could have had a proper High Speed Railway system by now.
