Over 14K text messages in one month?! (http://www.switched.com/2009/01/13/teenager-sends-over-14-000-text-messages-in-one-month/)

For anyone who tries to deny that texting can be addictive, just take a look at 13-year-old Reina Hardesty. Last month, she sent 14,528 text messages, a number that her father couldn't believe at first.

When Greg Hardesty got his daughter's 440-page long phone bill, he saw the number and thought, as he put it, "That's insane, that's impossible." Using a calculator, he realized that it means Reina was sending 484 messages a day, which comes out to one every two minutes if she's awake for an average of 16 hours. The monthly average for kids ages 13 to 17 is 1,742 messages, according to a Nielsen survey.

I think teenagers need to talk to each other by voice instead of little messages with 15 letters covering a half hour conversation.

I'm sure it's a lot easier to get up to 14k when ever text is little more than "O yeah", "Hrdr!", "is it in yt?", "OMG ur HUEG" and things along those lines.

I dunno, at least 80s children grew up with the music of the mid-late 1990s and very early 2000s, which was markedly better than the utter shite that's come out in the last couple of years.

Oh yeah, Britney Spears, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Kidrock, the Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls, Staind, N-fucking-Sync. We had a whole lot of goddamned class and taste, didn't we? These days, a lot of people have successfully repressed their memories of 90's music, and they've created this sort of nostalgic wonderland of Grunge, etc. But I remember, oh yes, I remember.

At least none of those bands had the pretense of having any kind of talent or decorum (except with the painful exception of Staind). They were good at what they did - being commercial.

Also featured - Beats International, the best stuff Massive Attack made, the quality Sugarbabes stuff, the end of No Doubt, Portishead, Prodigy, a whole ton of decent dance music and the least talentless period of the Stereophonics.

If your only criteria is being good at "being commercial," than you should have no complaint about contemporary music either. The fact is, they were terrible at what they should have been doing, "making music," and they dominated the radio.

The guy behind Iron & Wine coming into his own, Casey Dienel/White Hinterland, Scarling finding a decent producer, Metallica returning to their roots, This Is My Fist!, etc.
And that is limiting myself to "started since 2005," there are a lot of bands (like Flogging Molly, Lamb of God, Murder By Death or Nonpoint) still producing quality.

Its not surprising really that some 13 year old girl has 14k+ text messages.

My youngest brother (14) gets around 8,000 a month, and there are girls sending him text messages all day every day even while he's at school, in bed, or on a week long trucking vacation with no phone access. I think they send messages in their sleep.
