A friend at work let me borrow a couple of albums by Enya. I absolutely love her music. I think it is the best music I've ever listened to and am thoroughly addicted to it.

Have you ever listen to her music and if so what do you think of it? For those of you who have never heard her music or heard of her go here http://www.enya.com/about_bio.php

Her music is nice to listen to when I need something peaceful and soothing. She has a great voice.

Have you watched the Lordof the Rings movies?

Then you've heard her music.

It worked very well for LotR, and as background music in general, but it's not something I'd choose to listen to very often.

Its ok. One of the cases where I can tell its good music despite that type not really being my 'thing'.

That was horrible. That is not music, this is music (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=dXO3OMGKPpw). Thus sayeth New Manvir.

Yeah, but you're Canadian, which is almost like being American.

That means you're wrong about EVERYTHING.

Sometimes, I can see why it would appeal to some people. Usually I prefer music with more energy, though.

No: it isn't muzak, not in any way.

But I quite understand why you don't like it.

No: it isn't muzak, not in any way.

It's excessively bland, and seeing as muzak is a generic epithet for that...

But I quite understand why you don't like it.

Muzak is not synecdochical.

Oh?

Obviously.

Muzak is not synecdochical.

I don't think you understand what a "generic epithet" means if you think its literal synecdochicality is relevant.

Obviously.

Yet cryptically.

Fass got here first, so I have nothing to add. Enya is the unflavored oatmeal of the music world: warm and comforting to some, but entirely without flavor.

Meeeh. Dido's alright. Enya is only ok when incredibly tired/high.

I feel about Enya the same way I feel about clouds. It's there, it's neat once in a while, but I don't go out of my way for them and eventually would probably be like "uughh clouds dammit go away".

Loreena McKennitt is more World or New Age. Celtic would be like the Tannahill Weavers or the Battlefield Band, with lots of bagpipes, fiddles and songs about being "among the heather."

As some people have said, it's not music, it's bland generic background soundtrack, good for filling in silence but so that the audience doesn't get distracted with music.

I've listened to Enya since I got her first album on cassette in college circa 1992.
My only complaint is that her albums are WAY too short and come out way too infrequently. (Especially if you don't count her "Greatest Hits" discs...)

Thats true. I've been f*cking to the same groove for years. It's probably because her music has such a slow tempo ... I don't feel like working when I listen to her either. Meh, Enya's really only suitable for foreplay anyway.

It's ok. When I feel like that kind of music I'm more likely to listen to Loreena McKennitt or Clannad.

Yes, I like her music. Her ''Memory of Trees'' albums is my favorite. But I do prefer her sister, Moya Brennan and groups like Altan and Clannad.

I adore Enya. The Memory of Trees is her best album, but it only just eclipses The Celts.

are the whistle binkies celtic enough? i like boiled in lead and steel eye span too.

yah clanid and moyra brennan (sorry i don't spell that stuff so good)

i do take the broadest definician, that takes in such straingeness as kevin sorbee and even baka beyond, although i know the latter is another ethnicity entirely.
