How Much Do You Weigh?

Hotwife
08-01-2009, 21:47
Let's ask the rude question. I'd like to know the answers long before we talk about weight and weight issues, but the poll has to go with the thread.

Do you weigh too much? Too little? Just right? How about according to standards of height and weight?

Do you prefer to regulate all of this on your own?

Would you be happy if the state (through NHS, or some form of universal health care) forced you to lose weight, and penalized you with fines, re-education, and sanctions if you didn't lose the weight?

Are you tired of fat people? Or are people too hard on fat people?

I chose the "below average" option, as I have always been rather light for my length. However, if I would weigh what I should weigh according to some stats, I'm sure my feet and knees would seriously protest. Also, I fall well within the healthy region of the BMI and I feel excellent, so that's all ok.

16.5 stone at about 6 foot. Wii Fit tells me i'm obese, but i look less fat than i probably should for some reason. i've lost pretty much exactly a stone in the last 2 months, and probably another half a stone before that (putting my 'heaviest' weight, earlier this year, at just about 18.5 stone)

losing weight isn't actually that hard. i just had to want to do it enough. i haven't gone for any fad diets or bullshit like that - just changing my eating habits in a healthy and sustainable way. what's worked for me is cutting back a little on my main meals (1 portion rather than 2, for example) and cutting back on snacks and sweet things, as well as eating out a little less... which saves my wallet, too :P

and no, i shouldn't be forced to lose weight for anyone.

Do you weigh too much? Too little? Just right?

Too much. Working towards just right.

Of course, "just right" is a bit subjective.

How about according to standards of height and weight?

Depends on the standards. By the BMI calculation that uses height and weight, I'm way over. But I think that set of calculations is pretty much useless and while no one would call me skinny, people don't generally think of me as fat either.

Do you prefer to regulate all of this on your own?

Not sure what you're after with this question.

Would you be happy if the state (through NHS, or some form of universal health care) forced you to lose weight, and penalized you with fines, re-education, and sanctions if you didn't lose the weight?

No. But I wouldn't mind if they helped me pay for my Pilates sessions... =)

Are you tired of fat people? Or are people too hard on fat people?

This is situational. Some people are just downright rude to those who are overweight. Some overweight people are annoying for reasons related to their weight.

I'm 6'3 and weigh 190 pounds (190cm and 86kg for the metrically inclined). I used to weigh about 210 (95kg) but when I got out of the regular Army I stopped exercising as much and lost weight. If I don't exercise at all I stabilize around 180lbs (81kg). The rest of my family hates me since I seemed to get none of the "fat" genes. If my grandfather or sister so much as know a cake is in the same room they gain 5 pounds.

As for penalizing fat people, I don't think that's the way to go. I like Fass' idea of lower sales tax on healthy foods but that's about as far as I'd be willing to go with that.

I weigh 170 pounds. (A tiny amount over 77 kilos.) I used to be quite fat, but I'm not anymore.

Admittedly it's because I have a good metabolism and I had simply been super lazy, and once I started working out and changing my diet it melted right off, and therefore probably not many people could duplicate my results...but still!

Do you weigh too much? Too little? Just right? How about according to standards of height and weight?

I personally think I weigh too much, and I weigh significantly more than friends of mine who are the same height. However, weight and appearance are two very different things. My BMI is on the higher end of healthy, but still within the healthy range.

Would you be happy if the state (through NHS, or some form of universal health care) forced you to lose weight, and penalized you with fines, re-education, and sanctions if you didn't lose the weight?

The government has no right to force people to lose weight, nor do they have the right to penalise people for being overweight. I do support education about healthy eating. However, I believe what my (Australian) government has done to educate people has been trivial and useless.

Are you tired of fat people? Or are people too hard on fat people?

No, I'm not tired of fat people. Some people are too hard on larger people. A lot of people assume it's just because someone is slobby, greedy or disgusting. It's not. I am tired of seeing large parents feeding their large children extremely unhealthy food, though.

I'm still a healthy weight, but it's a healthy weight higher than I'd like it to be. The medication I was on for the past couple of years made me gain about 25 pounds, so now instead of being right at the lower end of the healthy range, I'm near the upper end of it. I've finally given up and stopped taking the medication in question, and I'm going to start South Beach next week in hopes that it will help me "reboot" my metabolism back to something like the way it was pre-medication, so that maybe at least a few of my clothes will fit again.

Do you weigh too much? Too little? Just right? How about according to standards of height and weight? My mum says too little, my doctor says I'm alright. That or he doesn't care.

Would you be happy if the state (through NHS, or some form of universal health care) forced you to lose weight, and penalized you with fines, re-education, and sanctions if you didn't lose the weight?I think I would be against this. It would most likely kill me.

I meant in reference to using them as measures of length and stuff. It's rarely used outside of sports or motorways and has been taken over by metric in most other fields.

Admittedly, using metric for height would throw me, as would it for motorways and any long distances.

Probably depends on what comes to my much-abused brain first, really. I'd say "a couple of metres" or a "few feet" probably as often as each other. As well as using both centimetres and inches to describe the lengths of things, although I'd use inches if something was fairly big.

Yeah, I am wrong on saying it isn't used that often.

If I wanted some string, I'd just buy a ball of string that looked like it was roughly the right length. I'd probably use metres, as that's the thing which I tend to do measurements of large sizes with.

I was actually wondering what people sell it as. I know I would use metres, and that may well be enforced in the law now like litres is for petrol. I'm not saying we should necessarily use only one or the other, they are useful for different things.

According to Wiki:

Petrol is sometimes quoted as being so much per gallon, despite having been sold exclusively in litres for two decades. Likewise, fuel consumption for cars is still usually in miles per gallon, though official figures always include litres per 100 km equivalents.

I guess we're just used to mpg, though I'd never speak of petrol in gallons. Miles per litre certainly wouldn't work.
