'Witch' Burned Alive in Papua New Guinea

(Newser) – A young woman accused of witchcraft was doused with gasoline and burned to death on a pyre of car tires in Papua New Guinea, reports the Telegraph. The girl, aged between 16 and 21, was accused of spreading AIDS to one of her murderers in an extra-marital affair. Black magic has seen resurgence as the Pacific island nation grapples with a HIV epidemic.
“The girl was stripped naked and could not shout for assistance or resist, as she was tightly strapped and her mouth gagged,” says a 21-year-old witness. Adds the region’s police chief, “I don’t know the right words to describe it, but it’s barbaric. Can you find the best words to describe such acts that are rampant here?”

SHouldn't their first clue that she wasn't a witch be how easily she was caught? If she were a real witch, she would have fucked them up in the process.

Yup, yup maybe she was and then again maybe she wasn't. Or maybe her tribe still held a lot of the old beliefs and ways before Christianity reached the shores of PNG, and just had a mixture, bringing in the new while keeping the old beliefs of witches and evil spirits. Who knows. But even then it still doesn't become "Christian News"

I'm really not sure why, any more so than any other person. This woman very likely wasn't of their faith, and most of the practitioners of the faith(s) don't live in places where this can happen.
Sure, it's a shocking example of superstition and violence, but I'm unsure why that should be of any concern to practioners of paganism any more so than anyone else.
