Is there a way to measure a distance from one city to another city using the internet, or google earth or something? (I am quite drunk right now), but, I need to know the distance from a place called Caracas to Guanare (not Guanare in Caracas), which are two towns in Venezuela. Thanks to anyone who can help.

MapQuest or Google Maps, perhaps?

I think you can do that with a ruler and googlemap.

Say if someone were to cycle there? So I guess that would be road distance.

Damn it, I'm not in the right state of mind to work all this out. I'll check this thread tomorrow.

Ping a computer in each city, time them, and triangulate ;)

There's a measure distance function in GEarth.

Um...sorry for your drunkeness?

I can't get Mapquest to do international directions, but I measured it using the scale (and my fingers). Take it with a grain of salt, but I got around 150 miles (241 km).

you will likely get the distance to the moon or at least into orbit.
other factors often delay the pings and they the pings may go out of country before reaching the computer.

And don't forget to take into account the difference in time speed between the two places, because they are not on the same lattitude, hence move around the earths axis at different speeds! :D

True that, I was doing speed tests on two routers I had, the SpeedTouch one I had had a ping of 99 ms to a city 350 kilometres away, while the D-link junk had a ping of 400 ms.

Shit, that's way too far! A friend is supposed to be cycling there today! He thought it was around 80km. Hmmm...

Maybe it's mostly downhill?
