Anybody the Kill it, Cook it, Eat it program on the BBC3 either on Monday or Tuesday about the shooting of wild game. Basically they take a group of people of different views on such things to a Scottish estate were thy go through the process of killing, cooking and eating game. Last night they shot Duck and on monday it was Deer stalking.

Anybody else see it and think what a brilliant program. Showing people where there meat can from and showing that those of us that partake in blood sports are not sadistic madmen as some would have you believe.

You can see both programs on iplayer now and the series continues throughout the week and I would highly recommend it, shooting rabbits tonight at 10 I think.

Now the question, how do you feel about blood sports and the shooting of game particularly?

As long as you're going to eat it.

As long as you're going to eat it. Or sell it for food? Becasue thats what happens if you dont eat it yourself, it goes to a game dealer.

That's fine, too. I also prefer that the game be overpopulated (here in Virginia, the deer are far too numerous, and hunting barely makes a dent in their population).

I also am in favor of hunting where the animal has some chance to kill the hunter, as in hunting Cape Buffalo.

Food has got to come from somewhere. Be it some mass producing farm or out in the woods animals will die for the sustenance of others. It's how the world works.

Personally, I like the wild taste game and fish has vs. store bought farmed food. However, at the moment it is just not practical (nor legal) for me to go hunting so I'll stick with the butchers.

If we're talking Scotland, then rabbits etc is fine, so long as you eat it or sell it. I don't think you should be allowed to shoot the reindeer, because there aren't many left.

Never watched it (we don't have BBC3 around here) but it sounds very interesting.

As for the bottom question, I feel that shooting game is fine, as long as you use the meat and/or skin for some purpose.

Well, I grew up in a state where hunting is an integral part of the culture. I'm all for it as long as you eat it, and if you don't you can turn it in to the state, who'll process it and feed it to the homeless.

Laser-guided sticks and incendiary stones may shatter my bones, but my voice-activated nukes cover a 30-mile radius.

One of my favourite shows, although the vegan/veggie nuts on it make me want to take them to the slaughter room.

I grew up with my grandparent farmers as next door neighbors,
raising sheep and cows.
My father a hunter,
and my mother raising rabbits for shows and meat/fur.
Not counting one of my aunts, also a farmer, raising pigs a few kilometers away.

I am not a vegan, no.

But looking forward to a time when meat can be grown in vats,
making it cheaper and more available.
Then we might more easily feed the poor and homeless around the world.

Hunting with Nukes? Kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it? All your trophies are either vaporized or covered in radiation.

It can, but...ugh. I'd much rather be eating a cow from a farm a couple of kilometres away than meat from a vat. Science is not usually an answer to the problem science gave us, such as agriculturalism and overpopulation as a resultant.

I like to delude myself that everything will have a technological solution eventually.

Whenever I hear the words "meat" and "vat" in the same sentence I can't help but think of Soylent Green or something similar.
