Worst Comic Strips ever!

Wilgrove
07-01-2009, 06:04
What comic strips do you read online or in the daily papers just make you groan, or makes you wish you knew where the author of the strip was so you can go beat his head in?

For me, it'd be the following.

http://dingo.sbs.arizona.edu/~hharley/IMAGES/Blog/FamilyCircusEggcorn.jpg

This pretty much sums up Family Circus. It's a strip that capitalize on the fact that people think children are cute, and the stupid, inane things that they say are cute. These people need to be gassed. Honestly, the only way Billy could redeem himself at this point if he starts doing strips where he shows that the squeaky clean image of this family is just a front, that behind the image is a broken down dysfunctional family. After all, you can't spell Dysfunctional without fun!

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c331/bethysphere/garfield1.gif

Now Garfield USED to be funny, Hell it still has some gem. However, about 99% of what Jim cranks out nowanddays is crap, he recycles the same tired joke. We get it, Garfield is fat, Jon is an all purpose nerd, and Odie is the stupidest dog ever (he must be a Boston Terrier). The only thing that actually revived this strip was the fact that Jon is now dating the Vet Liz.

You know, if Ziggy life is so horrible, then why don't he just OD already and be done with it?

Now it's time for you to share the worse comic strip out there! :D

Yeah. Back in the 60s/70s it was actually funny. They should just call it "C." now.

My vote would be for living proof that conservatives can't be funny. Mallard Fillmore (http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/mallard/aboutMaina.php) isn't just not the conservative version of either Doonesbury or Non Sequitur, it's just plain not funny. Being a left-leaner, I understand that me and folks left of me are ripe targets for satire. But this carping duck doesn't even try. It just presents a stereotype and basically says "aren't they stupid?"

On the other side is The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee (http://www.edisonlee.net/), which is Mallard Fillmore on the liberal side. It's as if the creators of these two strips just decided that "clever" needn't apply.

How exactly was he NOT supposed to take your remark personally? He finds it unfunny, therefore you called him too stupid to understand it. You didn't even bother to put a minor disclaimer up, like "in my opinion". The fault here is yours.

Yes, news paper comics suck. But the blame should not be put squarely on the "artist". Bill Watterson once got loads of mail berating him for suggesting Calvin would store phlegm in a Thermos. The news paper audience doesn't like "edgy", they like white-bread, watered-down pop culture references.

I'd say that is an example of good xkcd. A working, nontelegraphed punchline with no references to idiotic internet memes, no disgusting sentimentalism, no appeals to "randomness," no ego-wanking about how great the hard sciences are, a minimum of dorkiness.

LOL

See, it's funny because Apple is known for trying to provide the smallest, lightest, thinnest, cutest pieces of hardware, Such as the IPod mini. See? Anyone? Anyone?

I still don't get it ... I'm too stupid to understand it, I suppose.

Nope.

As a side note, I don't understand how people can find Calvin and Hobbes anything other than dire.

Wow. "Nope." You've expressed all the intellectual honesty and cabability of a walnut. You were one of those kids who'd say words like "shit" just to savor the gasps of adults, weren't you?

I'd suggest something like putting your affected cynicism and oh-so edgy disdain for what others like to better use, but I fear I'd be wasting my time.

Intangelon, I feel it is my civic duty to inform you that only a mere 20 seconds after reading the very first post by Mindsets I realized he would never ever take responsibility for anything he says or does here on NSG, and I wonder about real life. Its a lost cause.

It would seem that I was right.

Perhaps. It's overly sentimental, cheesy. Doesn't appeal to my nature.

And now I know I am.

See that second post of yours I've quoted there? Yeah, that's how you should have replied. It doesn't appeal to YOU. Accusing others of being stupid because they don't get it is pretentious horseshit, and you know it. It's how people make themselves feel better about liking really obscure, "post-avant-garde" stuff. But hey, you go on ahead. I will ask that you avoid the flames, though. I didn't submit your "stupid" comment out of benefit of the doubt.

And before you fire up your Sarcasmotron and jab me with some wildly clever piece of near-flame tripe, save your fingers. After this post, you're iggied.

I find it hilarious how Munroe thinks mathematics is a science and doesn't realize that it kills any credibility he has regarding science.

From this statement alone, I can tell you've never worked in an office. Dilbert was funny to me as a child, but pulling a brief stint in an office made it about 5,000% funnier.

You are most likely right, if I had worked in an office I would find the humor amusing, but I haven't, so I still stand by my decision.

It's only science if it's falsifiable and makes predictions. Maths is a system of tautologies. It's logic, not science.

Bad comic strips? Zippy the Pinhead it's just weird and aggressively unfunny. Also, Doonesbury. It's not funny either. It's never been funny.

Good comic strips? I liked 'The Boondocks', despite being on the exact opposite end of the political spectrum from the author. Mostly because, usually, it was funny. Especially the bit he did about Grandad and the neighbor guy going to see 'Brokeback Mtn.' because they wanted to see a 'manly' movie. Also, there's an Internet comic called 'Day by Day' that's pretty good. And by 'pretty good' I mean of course, 'I like it.'

I can revel in the fact that I have better social skills than someone on the Internet.

Like that award is hard to come by. Oh, wait a minute, it's not 'bad social skills' it's 'Asperger's' or whatever the hell is the latest way of saying 'I shouldn't be held responsible for my actions.'

Don't be dense. The Riemann hypothesis, Goldbach's conjecture, P VS NP, the relationship of the Mersenne primes; all capture theoretically falsifiable mathematical predictions that mathematicians are seeking answers for. Mathematics is not just logic, but also the science of logic, and perhaps as a non-empirical science the most valid science of all.
