The Best and Worst of NSG

Minoriteeburg

I was wondering does anyone here have or had a favorite thread on NSG? Or maybe just a particular kind of thread. Whether it was a debate thread, a game thread, or just a general thread about video games....talk about it here!

And at the same time, what is your least favorite thread(s). You know the one thread you wish would just die out but it just keeps on going...

As for myself, I miss the photography thread a lot, it was one of my favorites. Granted I could still probably pull it up and resurrect it, but it just doesn't have the thunder it once had. I also enjoyed the motivational poster thread that went back a year or two ago. Seemed to last forever, and it was always good for a laugh or two.

As for threads I don't like, I don't have any particular threads that I can't stand I just wanted this thread to be open for both sides of the discussion.

Also I am bored, and thought this would be fun for some if not all.
New Limacon

I like the threads where smart people say stuff. By "smart people" I mean "people who know something New Limacon doesn't," and by "say stuff" I mean "teach New Limacon something he didn't know." Legal threads with The Cat-Tribe (or is it Tribes?), economic threads with Neu Leonstein, and philosophy threads with Soheran are always interesting.

I dislike threads that lend themselves to devolution into spam. Spam's fun if you're participating, but it can be a drag to read three pages of it looking for something worthwhile. I can't think of any off the top of my head, and if I could, I would still pretend I couldn't.

You must HATE my threads.

Anyway, on topic: I like the threads that invite fun discussions, whether intelligent or just mundane; I also like taking a boring thread and trying to find ways to add fun to them.

I don't like the kind that break down into bitter arguments between two people, who are usually both wrong...

It's the only way to keep those Israel/Hamas threads entertaining sometimes.

Yeah I don't like those angry debate/argument threads either. They get boring and repetitive fast.

I like the fun, light hearted threads, or the threads about every day life, video games, or about religion. I also like the thread that starts out with SPAM, because it's such a nice clean thread that you can steer in your own direction. Also, think of it as a game, how many post can you get int before the mod locks it?

The only threads I get tired of, are threads that have the same boring topic, with the same boring arguments, with the same boring outcome.

Dumb Ideologies
07-01-2009, 15:51
Here's mine. I REALLY hate it where there's a boring thread thats been going on for ages, so I jump in and make what is quite clearly a ludicrous parody post (involving key phrases such as 'you make the terrorists win' or 'why do you hate freedom) and yet people take them seriously, sometimes addressing them point-by-point, asking for sources, or just occasionally going a wee bit mental and flaming. If its the former, I sometimes play along for a while, if its the latter I back off and explain I was joking (usually then accused of flamebaiting or trolling, despite the only offensiveness in my post being that it was silly, there's never any real offensiveness in there). Seriously. Chill. Where people are entrenched in their little ideological enclaves, repeating themselves again and again over dozens of pages continually spewing out nonsense ideological buzzwords, they need, no, they CRAVE mockery to highlight the pointlessness of what they're doing. In a sense, I am but their mental health doctor, prescribing them their much-needed medicine. Like a lot of mental patients, they can refuse to take it and go all loopy at me. But that doesn't make me the baddie in this movie. Oh no. Not at all. I'm here to heal, y'know. :p

Nothing in general. If I don't like something, nobody forces me to look at it. In reality, the only good thing about any internet forum with no specific topic is high traffic. You can say people post too much mindless spam and use it as their personal chat space for any brainfart that comes their way, but that's not really worse than an empty place that gets 1 post per week. You could say that mods are stuffy/stupid/pointless/lame/asinine/useless/contradictory/clueless who allow spam as long as it's not the OP, but that's not really worse than visiting the internet's official spam convention. You could say the users are morons/mean/boring, but you could very well be projecting. :D

Usually the one that make the hair on the back of your neck stick up.

Topics:

Religion - I don't know why it just sets me off
Prop 8 or anything having to do with marriage
US Constitution - This is the one that most often pisses off everyone. By the way we have some posters here who are extremely knowledgeable of the law. Kudos to them
Irreverent - Which pop culture characters are gay?

My favourites are probably the threads which, while started by angry, super-serious conspiratorial nincompoops, derail into parody by page three and usually get canned by page five. It's a short run but it's usually worth it.

They provide me with the most amusement. It's a shame they never stick around that long.

Got to say that guy with the moon ideas was cool, even if it was just because he managed to string along the whole forum three or four times and never give a straight answer. That takes some balls, that does.

Hell of an ego trip.

My favorites? The ones I've written. Mostly because they're on topics near and dear to my heart, such as pro wrestling, good music and my family.

Least favorites? Those threads that seem to exist only start arguments. It usually starts off kind of like this: 'Hey, why are (name of group poster dislikes or disagrees with) always stealing babies and sacrificing them to the Devil? Does anybody know what's up with that?' And then somebody else chimes in with 'it's because they're stupid' or some other equally well-reasoned argument. Then somebody else says 'oh yeah, well your group does thus-and-so' and 38 pages later, nothing whatsoever has been resolved.

My all-time favorite was the one that said Rep. Mark Foley was as important a figure in the cause of children's rights as Rosa Parks was in the cause of minority rights. WHat was the name of the guy who made that one?

The one about whether the UK could have one World War II without US help was my favorite...

Im a sucker for a good Alternative History thread..

And my least favorite is definitely the current "USian" thread, it just sticks me at my very core,

Any of Hammurab's old threads, especially his OP in the one about homosexuals needing seperate gyms. Priceless.

Great. I'm the Van Damme of nationstates general.

"Yeah, Bloodsport was great, but since then...."

I tend to at least look at threads by Ruffy, Smunkee, Nanatsu, Intangelon and Heinleinites. But my love is for Sgt. Ghost of Hammurab with a Goatee.

Jaysis, that's sweet and kind of you.

I was thinking of sending Baldwin for Christ over to Stormfront, but they mod approve your posts...

Thanks, WYTYG! And yeah, I saw that option but decided that starting from scratch was more fun. We're currently working on a whole spectrum of Lost Tribes of Farnhamia legends. :D
