"The number of the bigger surgeries has gone down for sure," said Dr. David Shafer, a Manhattan plastic surgeon. Breast enlargement surgery can cost anywhere from $4,000 to more than $10,000.

"People are definitely thinking twice right now," said Dr. Sydney Coleman, another Manhattan surgeon. He said his colleagues in the lucrative field are starting to feel the pinch. "They're complaining about it," he said, "and they don't usually complain."

High-end clinics that specialize in elective cosmetic surgery for wealthy patients are especially vulnerable.

"If the procedure is purely esthetic, it's definitely down," said Dr. Sydney Coleman, whose Manhattan practice does both esthetic and reconstructive surgery.

So, the breast enhancement industry is also sagging. We shall no longer be drowned in gigantic boobies when we go places. It is truly a sad day.

Btw, let the puns commence

No it isn't a sad day it's a great day.

I find enormous fake breasts really unattractive.

Though strange we both started a plastic surgery thread at the same time.

I was about to post mine, saw yours, and thought "damn, beaten to it!", but then I read it and saw it was different, so I posted mine.

And there's nothing wrong with big boobs.

Who cares if it's unattractive? What we need are more high paying jobs.

I say, a 700 billion dollar stimulus package for breast enhancement...

Surely that would cause rampant wage inflation

I doubt Obama would be willing to make a boob of himself so early in the presidency

But he would show that he's abreast of the current situation.

Hmm.... I never even considered the possibility of the cosmetic surgery industry going tits up. Clearly they'll have to nip and tuck at their budget to cut out non-essentials. ...Or send Michael Jackson a coupon. ;)

Well, you can be sure that in this frigid economy, that everyone will be standing at full attention to see what all he will do to provide proper stimulation to this unfortunate industry.

You know, I think it might have to do with the fact that fake tits are usually pretty goddamn ugly...like any other aspect of human appearance, what people like changes over time and it can change pretty drastically. And seriously, anyone that could afford those elective, not reconstructive, procedures definitely isn't cutting back because of the economy...I mean, show me someone who can throw down $10,000 on plastic surgery and try to tell me they're "hurting". Please, people, those of us in economics know just how well you guys made out over the past eight years so I think your finances are still quite in order.

seconded. Big, good, small but firm, good, but however fake, bad.

For the most part, I'd agree, but I've also heard about teenagers saving up for this kinda shit.

If my mammary serves me right, fake breasts cannot compare to the greatness of real, natural breasts. I stand firm and perky in my opinion.

The last thing we need is more industries suckling from the government teat.

No. What we need is to set up a lottery system. Have it funded by the breast enhancement industry, allow it to collect the profits, and have as one of the smaller prizes a free boob job for any member of your family. Yes, that makes a good booby prize.

Amazingly, this coincides with the trend of women in Manhattan and Beverly Hills who are now marrying for love.

I don't really enjoy fake breasts that much. Then again, I've had zero real-life contact with them. They could be fun I guess.

Since most of them are self-employed, breast augmentation surgery could easily be categorized as capital reinvestment into the business.

I wonder how you would amortize that though...

Probably a 3year or 5year depreciation.

Damn it! America is supposed to be about breast implants, because it's fun and pleasurable. As long as botox is over with though, that's a good thing.

I wonder whether the ever increasing love of skinny boyish women is having an impact. I doubt it, because large breasts are still considered imperative by some media standards. It's an interesting (and off topic) thought.

I can understand how people are less inclined to spend money on purely aesthetic things in the current financial climate.
