A game actually outselling the original Super Mario Bros.? That's a sales record that survived every Grand Theft Auto, Halo, and Pokemon.
That's industry growth for you. Video games weren't mainstream back then, so I'd still say Super Mario Bros was more impressive. Now with this Wiitarded stuff it's a ubiquitous fad with everyone twirling around a piece of plastic. :)

HEY! The Wii is awesome. Just ignore the crap (EVERY console has crap. Yes, even the Playstations and Xboxes) and focus on the Mario Galaxies and Metroid Primes. And the backwards compatability. The Wii has 100% backwards compatability with the Gamecube catalouge. The PS3 and 360 can't beat that.
Metroid is ok, that's just one game, or series, and it's gone fps. The Smash Bros games were sort of ok to play for a little while. Zelda has gotten decidedly kiddied up. Other than that, Nintendo = younger players, or people who prefer childish things. It doesn't interest me.

The Wii has 100% backwards compatability with the Gamecube catalouge. The number one question being why anyone on the planet would want to go back that Dreamcast rip-off.
(Kudos if you understood that one.)

It's kinda of unfair to compare the rate at which these two games sell/sold to other games as I'm pretty sure they both came/come bundled with the console.
So all this stat really says is that the Wii is out selling the NES... which you'd hope, two decades on, would be the case. But then it's also the fastest selling console ever. ie. Nintendo opened the market up, rather than just doing the same old shit for a loyal geekdom. Kudos to Nintendo.
But then, I don't especially consider myself a fan of graphics... but I find myself playing on a Wii thinking 'this is the best it can come up with?'.

I've never played it. With it? On it? I don't even know how to correctly phrase that, 'cause I'm not exactly sure what it is or how it's used. A few friends are into playing it these days, though, and it makes me a little sad. I'm really not sure why. Perhaps it's because it is yet another alternative to outdoor activities but one that takes it a step further and can give people the idea that they're still enjoying those outdoor activities. And all of these new creations are just making it more and more possible for people to stay in the confines of their own homes for longer and longer periods of time, without any real, face-to-face, in person communication/interaction with others.

Perhaps there are other, better, less costly ways to have fun.Better is entirely subjective, but from my brief time playing on a Wii I've found it to be one of the consoles on which people actually talk whilst playing. And not just about the game at hand, but other things. It's like because the game doesn't require your full attention you don't zone out. It's nice, and I quite like it.

Exactly. You know what else is entirely subjective? Whether or not something is compelling. I'm not saying that it is a bad video game console (I haven't even played it; I'm not much of a gamer at all, anyway), but I was answering your question. There are plenty of reasons why the fact that the game can be "fun" isn't a compelling enough reason to buy one.
That being said, if it's a fun game for you and something that you really enjoy, I feel bad knocking it. There's still a part of me that feels sad watching everyone waste time on technology and hardly any time on people, though. ): (Yes, I know I'm sitting in front of my computer right now. Bah!)

Which, while fun, the first few times, does get pretty dull.
Eh, don't worry. I don't own a console either. I have a couple of friends that own Wiis, and a flatmate that owns a 360. So ocassionally I play on them.

Some games require that sort of attention but there are plenty of other games where you can talk. Indeed I was playing FIFA09 just yesterday with a few people and we were talking about many other topics. I could list many other games where I do this, but then again if people can't multitask then it does become a bother

A couple of people have mentioned that the game came with the Wii, making this an unsurprising fact. (First of all, I'm going to guess that this isn't the only game to ever come with a console. But I could very well be wrong.) But! What I really want to know is, does that count? Isn't that more like "giving away" than "selling"? Or does it just count the sales made to distributors who could then...include the game with the purchase of a Wii console?

Nintendo has ALWAYS packaged a game with their consoles. Usually its a version of Mario, the Nintendo Wii has outsold every console Nintendo ever made, that being said, so has Wii sports outsold any Mario game ever made.

Fuck I love BBQs.I know great fun. Especially so for one of our pyro friends. We have to make sure he is never allowed near the lighter fluid ever again. One moment we have a full bottle. We turn our back for a like a second and then we all we have is an empty bottle and a mile high raging fire.

Do you have 'em at a park or in your backyard or...?We have them in the backyard. That way someone can plug an ipod into the kitchen speakers and we can have music as well. I didn't find it expensive at all. Mind you we do buy the cheapest stuff available. The BBQ itself cost us a mear £25 or something. Thighs and drumsticks are great though. Well cheap and well tasty. Hoorah for a western obsession with chicken breast. I hear slaughter houses will sometimes sell thighs and drumsticks at a loss, because it's cheaper than throwing them away (in the EU that is). :D

Lol, okay, that doesn't sound quite so fun. But nothing beats cooking lots of meat while drinking beer. Plus it's pretty much the only cooking I can do.

I'm fairly sure there have been more copies of windows (and the oackaged games) sold than their are wii sports things sold. That is not taking into account people pirating either.
