Laryngitis

So I caught a cold a few days ago, about the same time just my luck my furnace quit working. I replaced every damn part of my furnace but it still doesn't fucking work, but that's beside the point of this thread.

My cold has moved from my head and settled down in my throat, I am suffering from severe laryngitis to the point where I can't talk, barely above a whisper and I have to shout to force that much sound out... now many of you know I work in radio; and if I can't talk, I can't work; making my situation that much worse...

What remedies do people here from NSG have for clearing out my throat enough to be able to speak? I have tried hot tea with lemon and honey already but it hasn't helped me at all after several mugs (and I hate lemon in tea!) Your help would be greatly appreciated on this!

I'm just getting over that actually. I really didn't do much other than Buckley's, and a large number of hot toddy's. Also try and hang out with as many people as you can. Why be miserable alone?

I'd let it run its course also, but I don't have that Luxury. The more days I miss at work, the less money I have; I can't talk = I can't work. And I am way behind on bills, I need to work :(

Ice cream, rest and warmth.
It will still take time though.

I usually gargle natural spearmint mouthwash but it only helps for a while. Get some rest, you deserve it.

Taking time off work might still be a good idea. If your force yourself to talk then you can do more damage to your larynx and potentially put yourself out of work for even longer.

You don't even have to wait till you're completely better, just so you can talk a little again.

Rest. Try not to talk at all, and definitely don't try to whisper, that's worse.

You can take things to remove the virus/bacteria/whichever, but your body has to recover in its own time. If you go back to using your voice a lot (as you would in your job) too soon, you will cause further damage.

If it's laryngitis, go see a doctor.

wow youre screwed.

you really should go to the doctor but it will take all freaking day and youll be sitting in the waiting room with massive numbers of sick people each one of whom is capable of infecting you with something worse.

if you dont go to the doctor you may do things that make the laryngitis last much longer (especially longer than with professional treatment)

dont talk. keep with the soothing hot drinks. dont work today. hope for the best.

I had a nasty cold last month, and the coughing remained after the cold was gone; I dealt with it with ricola cough drops and honeyed tea. Sure, it';s not a 100% match for you, but...

And if all else fails, get one of what stephen hawking has! :p
