On blood clots...

Small question: If I had a blood clot and it got away from the vein it was in, how long until embolism effects were noticed?
Small other question: It's not very likely for a sudden not-too-sharp momentaneous pain in the (non-bone) leg to BE a blood clot, is it? >.>
This isn't a homework question.
It's more of a hypochondria question.
I hope.
Get to a doctor or hospital now! If you have a sudden pain like that in your leg get to the hospital. A friend of mine had the same thing last year. Came from no where. Next thing he knew,he was taking pills to combat the clot. He has the all clear now.
GO GET IT CHECKED!

It stopped less than 3 minutes after it came. Why I wrote "momentaneous" (well, why I even ASKED about it, lest I act unduly and worry myself and my family for nothing) - which I now realize is a WEIRD way to say "momentary" there.
Momentary may not be a sign. I get small pains like that in my leg a lot. My friend suffered more from a pain that had him on the floor crying. At that moment he thought his life was at an end.

Depends where it gets to: if it ends up in your brain, minutes (stroke). Your heart: seconds (Myocardial infarction).

I AM NOT A DOCTOR. but my guess is that there are plenty of sudden not to sharp momentous pains in the leg. Blood clot is potentially one of these. Even if there was a doctor here they wouldn't bve able to diagnose without a physical examination. If you are concerned go to a doctor.

Now I'm sorta feeling two things:
1- Guilty over worrying you.
2- Frustrated that my English is not perfect (the "momentaneous" flap). It'd not bother me that much if I didn't translate for a living. :p

I sorta meant for the clot to travel, say, from the leg to (perish the thought) the brain.
I'd rather die than have a stroke. Well, in most stroke cases I know of. >.>

You don't want to die from a clot breaking off. After battling Pancreatitis, a blood clot breaking off and heading for the lung (pulmonary embolism) is what got my mom. Trust me, it's not the best way to go (though I suppose there are worse.)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I don't want to die from one. What got me worried was the possibility thereof.

momentous implies huge.
you had a sudden pain that lasted a short time.
was it a big pain?
why would you think its a blood clot? ive had jillions of sudden short term pains in my day and i never thought "i bet thats a blood clot"

Holy crap. I got you folks worried over a "false friend" (false cognate)? I'm never gonna live this down... -_-
It wasn't a big pain. I'm VERY sorry about that mistake. Jeez, I'm a TRANSLATOR. -_-
As for why, my mother had one, and neither I nor her have healthy habits.
Mistook "momentaneous" and "momentous" for "momentary". *Commits seppuku*

did she have one when she was near your age?
"old" people get that kind of thing far more often than young people do.

next time you see your doctor tell him about your mother's clot and ask him how you would tell if such a thing was happening to you.
since its in your family its something you should know.
