NS Meet Sydney

Since I'm in a happy and sociable mood right now, but also quite alone in my room, I must make this thread. Trust someone from outside to organise this for the Sydneysiders.

The deal is this: some time before the 18th of February we will all go to a place (ideally where drinks are served, depending on everyone's age) somewhere central in the city area, meet up, talk and make RL friends. It actually works very well, the Brisbane NS Meet had much success on the back of people being able to just immediately start a conversation that would make no sense to anyone else but got things rolling.

Suggestions for location (picked by virtue of being close to where I work, I'm not against meeting up when I finish at the office at 6:30+):
Ambar/Workbar
Martin Place Bar
Ivy
Establishment
Opera Bar

I'm interested. If someone is going to be snapping pictures like at the Brisbane meet-up, though, I will attend in a balaclava and sunglasses. : p

Okay, so there's in-principle agreement. So I suggest we keep this thread around the first or second page for a few days to make sure everyone knows. The best way of doing that is by picking a time and a place.

How does Friday night sound to people? The 16th?

It would be busy at one of the major places around the city, but the smaller, after-work bars generally don't have loud music and aren't packed with drunken revellers (just drunk bankers, mostly). The Ambar (http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydney/ambar_cafe_bar/map.htm) does chips and stuff too.

But as I said, week nights are fine too, and in that case we don't have to avoid crowds. I'd just have to go to work the next morning.

I can't make it on the 16th.

I'm serious though, I can't have an NS Meet by myself. You guys are going to have to say something.

Okay, final bump. Don't let this city down, until now it seemed quite nice.

If anyone is interested in meeting up, contact me - ideally in this thread, otherwise through the message system of the forum or even a TG to my nation.

And no, my job isn't high-paying yet, I'm just an intern. Hence I'm poor, but live surrounded by rich people.

I concur with that idea.

Leon I think only Bunny actually lives in Sydney, as you know Lapse is in Brisbane and I'm in the backwater of Australia (Adelaide) when are you heading back? I may be in the Gold Coast sometime on Feb and I could also do a quick stop in Sydney but that is yet to be confirmed anyway.

Because Australia is the better country :D You should come over here and stay it will lower the IQ of both Australia and New Zealand but it is a result I am willing to happen.

Wasn't it Piggy that said something along the lines of, the people leaving New Zealand and going to Australia were raising the IQ of both nations?

I might have difficulty meeting there.

*curious person* "oh so where are you going MHIJ?"
*me* "I'm going to meet some annonymous internet friends"
*curious person* "oh yeah, sounds interesting and whereabouts are you meeting them?"
*me* "the other side of the planet, with my wads of cash i can get a return ticket to Sydney, go out drinking then come back in a couple of days":)
*curious person* "surely you can't afford that?"
*me* i look into the middle distance, and a passing bus with an orchestra rolls past playing sinister music and i say...
"oh yes one day it will be my day and when that happens i will go to the other side of the planet. they shall tremble with fear gnawing at their gizzards"
*curious friend* "okay well let me know how that goes for you" he says as he backs away verrry slowly.

You've been watching those vampire movies again mad Hatter!

I live in Melbourne and I used to hitchhike to Sydney in the past. I must say, part of me is tempted to drive up (only 900 km) to argue with them face to face. Heh! Heh!

Don't eat too many pie floaters in Adelaide Blouman.
Best of luck with the house move lapse.
And keep on organising get-togethers NL. It's great that you guys are linking up!

I'll be here until the 18th of Feb. Then my parents will drive down here, we load all my crap into the car and drive back up. Then uni starts in earnest on the 20th.

Let me know if you do make it to Sydney. I've been meeting so many new people, it's insane. Though this morning I think mother nature is trying to tell me to slow down...

I have never eaten a Pie floater and I've been in SA for about 13 years.

If you do come it will be good we can argue into the wee hours of the morning of course I will be drunk and I may just start making some sense.
