CNN (at least for now) has stopped using "The Ticker". And it is a true blessing in news. You are right in saying that it is the most annoying thing to ever be on the television.

I don't watch the news, I find it distracts me from more important things - like sleeping. I obtain my knowledge of current events, the way cats learn, by sleeping on my newspaper. It's not comfortable and the ink stains my whites, but I find it gives me a much more realistic, balanced view than any TV news. And, when I've finished, the paper makes a lovely firestarter for my fireplace.

I always thought he was both. That is what I liked about ESPN in the 90s it was a bunch of smart, well trained reporters doing their job. Hell ESPN had a better reporting staff in those days than most major news networks.

I do a mix of reading newspapers, reading articles on the internet, and when I do watch news it tends to be Fox. Only reason for that though is that I have liberal views, so people would expect me to watch CNN, and probably look down on me for watching 'liberal biased' media. So I watch Fox (but usually argue with everything they say) so they don't throw that sort of thing at me since if you watch CNN or other 'liberal' media they ignore everything you say. I live in an area where people believe Fox is in fact balanced.

Its either that or ITN.

ITN, goes on and on and on... stick to the point please. Sky, they are so damn slow.

Euronews, now, this is pretty good. However a lot of it is ill-relevant to me. I can get Fox, CNN ,and other US news channels. But I don't give them the time of day, after watching ABC news for 15 mins I realised just how, kinda childish, inaccurate compared to the Beeb, and how one sided it was. And the picture quality was terrible too. I have no idea if its just ABC I'll find this bad, but thats my opinion.

I can't watch the news anymore. All it is, regardless of which channel it is on, is paranoia. Shock your audience into watching, then throw in a bunch of celebrity gossip filler, three seconds of national weather, a blurb about sports (if there is no sports celeb. to tackle,) and maybe a positive human interest story if there's time.

It is important to stay abreast of important developments in the world, but when all they can talk about is some murderer, some missing white girl/toddler, which celebrity is doing coke this week, or hours of feeding America their opinion on the subject...well, yeah.

I used to watch CBC a lot, almost every weeknight, (Canada Now) but since falling out of the habit of watching it I've been more inclined to use the Internet (especially youtube) for news, since the Internet does things even with TV clips that TV news alone probably wouldn't. (Such as show different networks' versions of a story to catch one of them quoting a politician out of context... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDw5a0_iFBk))

Once in a while I might watch The National (also a CBC news show, but since it has an award-winning journalist as a main anchor and its approach seems a bit more worldly, I'd like to think it's better) directly from TV, and since from what I've seen I tend to prefer that show, I probably could be watching it more than I do. In any case, at this point I don't have any particular news-watching structure, but generally when I look at forums, browse youtube videos, occasionally go to websites that have the news in a side-bar, etc... normally if something important's going on I tend to eventually hear about it...

Please, if possible, tell your political side (left wing, right wing.) i am trying to find a pattern between news channels and political opinions.

This is generally national news.

I'm not affiliated with either American main party.

I regularly watch MSNBC. Fox, CNN and BBC World News. I also tend to catch local news programs. I listen to NPR. I read various online news sources, usually starting my day by trawling the MSN and Yahoo! news pages... but not limited to that.

About the only medium I'm NOT interested in, for my news information, is printed media. I maybe read newpapers once a month.

from what i've seen lately of the beeb feed we get, i strongly suspect that it is!

i remember when we first started getting it, it was actually sounded more honest, more intrinsically self consistent, then anything we could get from our comercial media, but that was before that guy who offended blair by being honest was armwrestled into resigning. i forget who the guys name was, one of the top managers of their news organization.

but that was then. what we're getting now sounds distinctly predigested and aimed at coddling the assumptions the corporate mafia want us to remain attached to and comfortable with.

at any rate there is a whole "underground" of indipendent broadcasters and organizations like f.a.i.r. (fairness and accuracy in reporting), and of course the bloggisphere if anyone REALLY gives a dam about anything other then perpetuating their self brainwashing and not disturbing their familiar assumptions.

corporate media is for twits. pbs, under shrubery was too, but it seems to be starting to limpingly recouver, (except for its butchered version of the beeb feed)
