Anyone else on here follow the NHL (National Hockey League)? I'm personally a big Washington fan, and they are looking good heading into the second half of the season. Boston also looks amazing, as does Chicago and San Jose.
Anyone disagree? Or have other teams that look better? I must confess I don't watch every game or every team, but I try to follow quite a few.
Best team as of 12/28/08: BOSTON BRUINS
Worst team as of 12/28/08: TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING

I can't wait for:
-The Winter Classic
-Anaheim to get consistent
-Barry Melrose to get hired and get to coach against the Lightning

I'm somewhat partial to the Avalanche, but then, I live in Colorado.

Wojtek Wolski looks AMAZING in shootouts. I saw him go against Ty Conklin the other night in Detroit, and when he scored Conklin wasn't even in the crease anymore. (Colorado =D)

I like the Bruins quite a bit, but I have to pull for the Capitals, due to my deep connection of Russian-ness with Ovechkin.

Anyone remember what team for example Selänne is?

oh, right, Malkin isn't Russian or anything...=)
No, I really hate the Penguins. Actually, I hate a lot of the teams up there. It comes from growing up in D.C. =)

Selanne is in Anaheim. But he's injured.

I haven't watched hockey in a couple of years, but I was a hardcore Flyers fan.
How are they doing this year?

Pretty well, actually. They are 4th(?) in the East, and have the highest scorer in the league (Jeff Carter). Not for long though, because I see Alex the great passing him very quickly. =D

I used to love the Penguins.
My two favorite players have always been Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr.

Damn, hope he'll recover from it in time for the next championship.

I liked him when he played for the Caps. Lemieux was never one of my favorites, but I wasn't born into his era, so I really only saw the twilight of his career.

I miss the good old L.O.D. days with Hextall in net though.

Carter wasn't even on the ballot for the All Star Game and he leads the league. Isn't that ridiculous?
The Flyers are young and they're playing well. The power play is surprisingly good too. John Stevens is the man.

Let me tell you...I just had an orgasm seeing someone else say those words.
I love my B's. I've stuck with them for the last...well...21 years of suckage. Last year, them showing a good stand to Montreal got me pretty excited. This season has been more than I could ask. Kessel with his 17 game point run, Lucic with his Neely-style play...Timmy and Fernandez playing their hearts out in goal, Wheeler up for the Calder, Bergeron back from his concussion (only to get another...)...too many to list
Though, I do have to say that San Jose has pulled back into the lead for the league by two points. Damn, I wish we still had Thornton. Well, both of them.

I'm also glad to see that some of the NHL has finally gotten smart about the farm leagues and adopted a baseball-style system where the farm teams play identical systems as the majors. It is one of the major reasons that the Bruins have been relatively unharmed by a series of fairly major injuries (Bergeron, Ference, Ward)
Caps look good, and they have a better chance of going far in the playoffs than the Bruins by dint of... you know, not being the Bruins.
As for me, I'm from NorCal and I bleed teal. I'm happy to see that the rest of North America has become aware of the fact that San Joe has a team in the league, and that the team is actually kind of okay (TSN proclaimed we "vaulted into first" tonight, even though we've only been out of first for a few days all season). :eyeroll:

Flyers players always get shafted from the ballot for the most part.

Bwahahaha. Never, ever ever getting him back, suckers! *covets Joe*
Although I still miss Sturm. :/ But still--never getting him back.

The All Star Game is a stupid popularity contest run by stupid people who will always vote for the same 10 guys no matter how their seasons go. I mean, Marty Turco is leading Evgeni Nabokov in voting, and Turco's half the reason the Stars are in the basement.
Bahevah. Don't get me started on fan voting.

One of the reasons I stopped watching the NHL. The league has allowed the all star game to become a joke, and its been that way for well over 10 years.

I'm guessing you couldn't see the color?
And hell no, they shouldn't be Buffalo style. That shit tastes like paste with cayenne in it. Try Thai with peanut sauce *drools*.

Thornton is still one of my favorite players. One of the reasons why I'm most pissed that he's in San Jose is because I never get to see him play...I'll get to watch him in Feb. and that's really it.
And the fact that he is one of the best play makers in the league...though, we have Kessel who is equally amazing.
Glad to see that Samsonov never made anything of himself...still plays with no direction.
The Caps' worst-to-first turnaround and their comeback against the Flyers to force a Game 7 didn't win them that series, and may have only won them the Southeast Division title, but it did something else. It won me over again as a fan.
My only concern is I hope they're not peaking too early.

The Ducks should make the playoffs at this rate, but it looks doubtful that they'll catch San Jose for the Pacific division title. Right now, they'd be the #6 seed.
