if you spent as much time doing algebra as you do listening to those songs you would have no problem with it.
they are 2 different kinds of learning with 2 different levels of enthusiasm.

Because you enjoy music, but you don't enjoy mathematics? People tend to remember what they like, or what's very traumatic, but they don't tend to remember what irritates them or makes them feel bad.

In all honesty, after so many years of not taking math, I'm sure I do not know how to do algebra anymore either.:tongue:

I do. Essentially, as long as you make sure one side of the equation always equals the other, and all operations are equal, your algebra will be successful.

We learned the quadratic formula to a nursery rhyme, which I still sing to myself whenever that formula's necessary. I can't remember the name of the song, though, or the original lyrics.

How often must you solve for x?
I had to figure out what my hourly rate was out of a flat rate in order to calculate overtime recently and it turned out I had to find for x.
(It wasn't simply a case of dividing my rate by the number of hours, the flat rate included 'overtime' hours ($250/10 hours), it wound up being 8x + 2(1.5X)=250. Once I found out I was finding for x I was pissed because it meant I probably should go find my high school algebra teacher and apologize...I didn't, but I should have.)

Pythagorases Theorem is about all I can remember from maths. I'm into my trivia, and that fits in, I think it was one of the only things I answered properly in my exams.
X(2) = A(2) + B(2)
So, 4(2) plus 3(2) = 25, and square root 25 = 5. The hypotenuse (ie, x) is 5. WIN!

If we say x is the capacity of Ruffy's brain and a is the amount taken up by songs the the value of b (that left for algebra) is
b = x - (a + c)
where c is things like knowing how to make a drink etc.

Probably "Pop Goes the Weasel."
I learned my prepositions to that tune, too, in several verses. It started "About, above, across, after, against, among, aro-und, at, before, beside, between, *BY* ("POP"), down, during...." :tongue:

Perhaps because you enjoy music more than maths, you use it more than maths, and so endless listening to a song reinforces their lyrics into your brain. Yep thats the reason.:D

Aye much the same. It's because music is awesome and maths is tedious.
