Prediction for 2009

Wilgrove
28-12-2008, 04:44
With 2008 drawing to a close, and 2009 just on the horizon, what will you predict will happen in the year 2009?

I predict the scandal that involves Obama's senate seat will continue at least a year into his administration, and media will latch onto it like whores latch onto the big spenders.

Now it's your turn!

I predict that Obama will do a pretty good job as president, but people will say he did horrible because they expected him to create world peace.

At the end of each year I write a column on what the web's psychics predict for the year ahead.

Thus I can confidently tell you that Queen Elizabeth II will die in March, leading to the elevation of Prince Charles to the throne of England. Prince Andrew will then gain control of Italy, Princess Anne will give up her power in Germany to her son, Peter, and Prince Edward will become “emperor” of the European Union.

The World War that was supposed to fit in there somewhere has been delayed by the election of Obama, who is either an Old Soul or the Anti-Christ, depending on which site you read.

It's a far cry from what was predicted for the heady days of 2008, when, as you may remember, Lady Di’s spirit manifested itself in a flame over her tomb; that cardinal was held to ransom by the pirates; the fall of the International Space Station wiped out two small American towns; and President Hillary Clinton was swept into office in that historic election …

If you didn’t notice these stirring events, you’re forgiven. The arrival from space of the Elder Brothers was, admittedly, a bit distracting.

God will put the universe on pause and we'll be forced to live 2008 all over again. Panic kicks in when he doesnt return and we all live like "Groundhog Day" for a whole year over 200 times...alot of people go whole months, dead, with a toaster between their naked legs in a bathtub full of their excrement, only to be revived again for another glorious 2008.

Batman eventually saves the day when he wakes god up with one of his belt darts.

The media questions the motive of Batman for the rest of the year, claiming that he only did it to earn more money in the next Batman movie, which would have to open after 2008. Batman refuses to comment.

More international monetary woes, leading to the Russians getting increasingly bullish with the Ukranians over their pipeline and possibly with Azerbaijan over the planned EU oil-line, trying to push through Nordstream and all that.

More Yanks and Iraqis will die in Iraq, Afghanistan will get a bit worse in spring but clear up a bit as the year progresses, now that the Pakistani ISI is being closed down a bit, the Gaza strip is going to become occupied territory again, and South America is going to probably get more despotically run by Chavez and Evo Morales, in return the Colombians are going to get more belligerent.

well of course there's always political infighting, and people who are bitter about one thing and another trying to stir something up. often hiding it behind values of pseudo-religion, or the pretensions of economic ideological prejudice. you know, keeping that going at everyone's expense, including in ways they don't seem to realize, their own.

that's not, any of it any news really.

what's going to be the big news of 2009, perhaps, is that its all up to all of us. all any "leader" can do is suggest and exemplify, though the less skilled invariably also try to bully.

i think, hope, a number of interesting things are going to be rediscovered. things people have been denying for the past 30 years or even 60.

other 'big' news, well the big things, those three converging trends i keep talking about, for the most part these arn't things you can point to one particular day and say it all happened.

i think, hope, people are going to start remembering, and remembering the importance, of both the web of life, and the benefits that are there in the form of spinoffs from basic research, and the exploration of outer space.

i think, hope, there's going to be a complete shift of focus, from bitter attachment to fear for the familiar, to one of hope and imagination. and at the same time, i really think this is how we can dig our way out of the hole we've dug for ourselves with the worshiping of the mundaneness of self serving economic assumptions.

There will be talk of another economic stimulus package or two, a public works plan (possibly implemented) the likes of which haven't been seen for a few decades, and people who so vehemently abhorred how the government fucked with their monies will so willingly allow a new administration to possibly do the same.

yes, all of that, and hopefully too though, more people will begin to realize its NOT ALL about symbolic value, but more so about actual gratification and the kind of world they, and the rest of us, all have to live in.

I predict an election in Canada where Harper will lose his post as Prime Minister.

I predict that the current economic crisis will continue well into late 2009 and possibly 2010, with the Dow fluctuating right around where it is now. World governments will continue to pour cash into banking institutions but to little avail. The U.S. and U.K. will be hit worse and national debts will continue to grow.

I predict the animosity between Israel and Palestine will periodically break out into minor spats of violence but nothing more.

I predict the U.S. will start a gradual pull out from Iraq soon after the U.K. starts to pull out their troops, the total pull out could go well into 2010.

I predict that the new administration will not implement any major social reforms until 2010 or late 2009 due to budget restraints and political mischief on both sides of the aisle.

I predict the Supreme Court will not have any change in ranks for this next year.

I predict another attempt at an economic stimulus, but it will not work.

Tension between Russia and other former Soviet bloc nations will continue to increase, Russia will threaten to cut off heating fuel and may even use military units to enforce its point of view.

I predict the summer will be unusually hot in Europe and the United States.

I predict that the price of oil will go back to around 100 dollars per barrel.

I predict a pirated version of the next windows operating system will be leaked, leading to an increase in Mac and Linux users as customers flee to greener pastures.

Social media sites will continue to grow as more creative means to share information will develop.

Major internet service providers in the U.S. will place low bandwidth caps on most service plans in an attempt to fight internet piracy, this plan will fail.

Near the end of 2009 there will be a flood of prediction for 2010 across the world wide web.

Ok, my predictions of future events, without the bias of my political views or beilefs. That means no touching on Obama or the White House from me, in an attempt to keep this thread from turning into a giant argument. And now, the top story....

- Due to the recent surge of seismic activity along the San Andreas Fault, with each quake becoming stronger and stronger; I predict the so called "Big One" that scientists have speculated would happen sooner or later to occur in the mid months of 2009, likely between May and August.

- Due to the the fact that the US economy is in shambles, the collective "World Economy" is suffering because of the US recession, and the fact that the US Dollar is depreciating in value when compared to other leading world currencies (Euro specifically) I predict a full and complete collapse of the US economy to occur in either Feburary or March of 2009.

- Due to increased hostilities in Israel and the surronding regions recently, I predict a full-blown Israeli invasion of Palestine and Gaza in early to mid January, if not sooner. Like all other wars fought in the region, Syria and Egypt are likely to get involved and wanning western nations such as the US are likely to guarantee peace shortly after comabt operations commence.

- Due to increased tensions with Russia following numerous threats from both sides and the South Ossetia Invasion, I predict some sort of military action on their part in early to mid-2009, either in an attempt to boost their current economic environment, or as an intimidation move to show the West they are still a powerbroker.

- Due to the fact that I'm very tired, I predict no more predictions from me for the time being.
