When I was younger, I wanted to be famous for something. President of the United States? A famous sportswriter? Something.

After facing my own mortality two years ago, I just want to be remembered as someone who made a difference in his part of the world and someone who treated others the way they would want to be treated.

I have thought about this for a long time since I have been a teenager. Maybe it is one of the reasons I got into security (assisted old man getting run over by transport, provided first aid to man pushed down 20 stairs by a bus stop) and looking forward to a career in law enforcement.

But like the fifth poster said. You are dead so you are not really going to know now are you. All you can hope for is that the people who do show up to your funeral don't dwell on your death but remember the good times.

Like my favorite rappe Tupac Shakur says

"Life Goes On"

no matter if your dead or not.

I have a certain thing for being remembered, even if it is only by a few people. Even though you aren't around to know about it, in a way it's our only shot at immortality.

I don't know about tomorrow, but Murphy's Law would probably like to leave me with something like this:

"Fergi America is a hero to the world. Her successful efforts at eliminating aging made 'death of old age' a thing merely to be remembered in history books.

Too bad she was so busy yelling 'YES' that she didn't see the truck."

You know, in years past I might have said something bitter or scornful about no one showing up to my cremation, which I think people should get to watch just like they do a burying, but my new job has given me a fresh perspective. Because you know what makes you look like you were a totally awesome person in life? 25 five-year-olds bawling in little suits and dresses at your memorial service. Leaving teddy bears. It would be morbidly adorable!

i would be quickly forgotten, and glad of it, however, my pichers on the net, plus my bbs'ing, is undoubtedly imortalized somewhere, at least among those who may have been moved to download whatever they may have seen fit of it, to add to their screen savers, print out to throw darts at, whatever.

its not what i'm remembered for that matters, its what, however subtle it might be, the contribution of my priorities to the cultural gestalt, the positive ones, as hopefully at least a simple majority of them are, is what i can die gratified to have had the fortune to contribute to.

Eh, I doubt all that many people would know, or that a large portion of those who would know would particularly care. But, as others have said, I would be dead, so it would not be my concern, since, if there is an afterlife, I'd have more pressing problems to deal with, and if there isn't, I'd have none at all.

If I were going to die tomorrow, then I would do crazy shit that would normally kill me and then die. I would be remembered as "that fool who tried to kill himself by cyanide capsule, poison injection, shotgun to the face, machine gunned to the stomach, pistol to the heart, rifle to the head, thrown out a passenger plane at 20,000 feet, get released from twenty thousand leagues under the sea, nuked several times, thrown off Everest, and then drowned." My wife and immediate family would mourn my passing.

My professional community would remember some of my academic writings (particularly a book I wrote in Australia), my membership of the board of directors of one of our professional societies, and my several years editing the newsletter of the same society.

Nothing in that previous sentence implies any real sense of immortality, but at least I'll have made some sort of positive and constructive contribution to my chosen professional career.

remembered for: about nuffink.
eulogy: not used here, unless for people who get solemn State funerals
world mourning: lol
statue: no please, I always said no tomb for me, statues are only worse.

Only my closest relatives and friends will remember me for some time. then again, will I care?

NO, because I'll be dead. I'll be no more. Finis.

I won't care because I'll be dead.

What would people say at your eulogy?

My opinions are well known, so I wouldn't have one.

Would the world mourn your loss?

The "world" would be an even more pathetic place if it did - the hypocrisy inherent in mourning the "loss" of me, and not countless others, would irk me, were I not dead and thus no longer existent.

If death is oblivion, then indeed what's the point in worrying? And worrying now about what people might say about you in the future when you won't care is doubly insane!

However, if there was an afterlife, I would come back and haunt people for shits and giggles.

But the cosmic Jewish carpenter who is his own father and that can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from you soul that is present in all of humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree is not a fairy tale to you? Right... because that makes perfect sense... as opposed to deities living on mount Olympus and bearing full grown women from their migraine-stricken skulls, that they split open with an axe, somewhere in between raping Europa in the form of a bull and... well, generally raping other women in the form of various animals and meteorological phenomena.
