..well what is your favorite?

What is that one food that can make you feel good no matter what is getting you down?

For me, it's macaroni and cheese. I don't know why but a good box of kraft mac n cheese always seems to hit the spot when I have shitty days like today.

Recipes are welcome too.

I'm afraid I've never had the latter, so I couldn't say.

But you can see the wonderment of a deep-fried pizza for yourself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep-fried_pizza).

Also, chippy sauce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steak_sauce#United_Kingdom_and_Ireland):

'Around Edinburgh a combination of spirit vinegar and brown sauce, known simply as "sauce" or "chippie sauce", is popular on fish and chips.'

Homemade chili
Creamed tuna on toast
Warm tapioca pudding.
Warm chocolate pudding
Banana pudding (the kind made with vanilla wafers, vanilla pudding and sliced bananas - sort of a redneck trifle).

The whole concept of comfort food isn't exactly healthy. Sure, it's great if you love a certain food and it makes you feel happy eating it, especially if you've have a bad day, but if you rely upon food to make you feel better that's a different story. I don't have a comfort food. No food is comfortable.

Most foods that I've heard called comfort foods simply recollect happier times for whomever's mentioning it. Oatmeal, grilled cheese, etc. are foods most of us eat only rarely, but ate far more often in childhood (presumably a more carefree time for most of us). It's more sentimental than anything else.

If you like deep fried pizza, have you ever had chicken fried bacon?

I like fried pizza dough, also called "pizza fritta". Uses up left-over dough after making pizza. Great for breakfast, with plenty of butter.

Another CF: crackers with peanut butter.

Gods above and below, YES!

I also go for chicken and rice and potatoes au gratin. Usually when I'm feeling homesick, I'll whip up a batch of those.

Of course, when I'm back in the States, I start missing Japanese food and feel comforted with miso soup or my wife's karaage so go fig.

Eating to relieve stress isn't a healthy habit. Eating something out of tradition is neither good nor bad in itself, I don't think. Comfort foods to me fall in the latter category - something you eat as a ritual, more than for its taste or nutrient value. Luckily for me, I was fed mainly healthy foods as a child - oatmeal, carrot sticks, raisins in the little box, etc. remind me instantly of childhood, but aren't likely to clog my arteries. I hope.

Fried eggs, overeasy, with bacon and wheat toast. Warm, raw egg yolk dripping all over the bread and greasy bacon crunching.

There's also this stew my mother makes. Not much to it, just potatoes, beef, spices and broth, but it makes me feel quieted. Warm and filling. Makes me nostalgic for a past that probably didn't exist.

My comfort foods are all Italian because I'm only second-generation Italian and both sets of my grandparents were born in Naples in Italy.

So my comfort foods are baked penne and Chicken Parmesan and sausage with peppers and spaghetti marinara and especially linguine with white clam sauce (NOT red clam sauce. Has to be white. The tomato in the red clam sauce kills the clams.)

I love linguine with white clam sauce. May not be my top favorite food but it's up there. Has to have a good sprinkling of parsley on it, too, and some dry white wine and plenty of garlic in with the clams. Mmmm.

I shouldn't talk about it too much cuz now I'm in the mood for it.
